    Scooter Blenny Care

In Hawaii you are allowed to take a one gallon bucket of rocks off the beach per visit. After a big swell or storm you can find some great pieces. I have yet to find any live coral frags, but friends have. Much of my base rock that is exposed to light has since been covered in calcareous...

    Scooter Blenny Care

I have a considerable amount of live rock. I started with 40 lbs or so of base rock, and placed about 60 lbs of live rock on top of it. The live rock stretches nearly from side to side (48 inches), and to within 6 inches of the surface of the tank. From the back to the front of the tank, the...

    Scooter Blenny Care

Upon the recommendation of the LFS owner, I bought a Scooter Blenny about a week ago. It appears to be doing well in my 55 FOWLR tank. The tank has been established and running for about 3 years now. Do anyone have any tips, etc., regarding the care of this fish. The LFS guy simply said that...

Feather dusters, how to get rid of them?

I had a few of those small featherdusters for a while, but one of my fish ate them all. Maybe my butterflyfish (which has since found a new home) or my angelfish. I don't remember which. I never had that many to begin with.

    fresh comments about Maui

I am glad you had fun on Maui. I have lived here for 7 years now, and I still enjoy free diving and checking out the reef environment. I saw two cuttlefish the other day, which are rare in Hawaii. The Ocean Center is really cool - they could make it cheaper for residents though. The DLNR...

    New addition: Pencil Urchin

I just added a Pencil Urchin on Monday afternoon. Does anyone have any experience with these? This was locally caught specimen, and hopefully will adjust well to my tank. Two of my fish and all of my liverock and water is of local Maui origins. I'd like to add a pincushion urchin as well...

    Legs on Lights or not?

I just upgraded my lights to a Coralife Aqualight Double Strip Light (48"). The lights did not come with legs. At the moment the lights are resting on the tank. Should I buy the legs, do they make an appreciable difference in temperature? Please keep in mind I live in an area with a year...

Thanks folks! I need to order soon, and on the basis of your advice, I'll be purchasing a 1/10 hp unit.

    Chiller advice

My tank is 55 gallons and room temperature in Lahaina is often in the 80's. I am not sure a 1/10 hp will be strong enough. My current, broken, chiller is 1/5 hp, and chilled it well, but reliability was an issue.

    Chiller advice

I need a new chiller. My Via Aqua cc25 went haywire and dropped my tank down to 64 degrees. I had to diconnect it. I want to get a new chiller, one that works well. Any advice?

    chillers-so expensive!!

I live in Maui, on the warmer side of the island, and have used a 1/5 hp chiller for 2 years now on my 55. With room temperature in the 80's, my tank's lights pushed the aquarium's temp up to the high 80's, even with a fan. My chiller keeps things an even 77 degrees F. I have had several...

    HELP!!! Aptasia Problem

Your Raccoon Butterfly does not eat your aptasias? Mine solved my aptasia problem very quickly. I live on Maui and have never seen a peppermint shrimp for sale either.

    Firefish Experience

It sounds like a goby would be my best bet. The only LFS that I would buy anything from on Maui usually only gets yellow watchman gobies. I already have a yellow fish, and am in the market for something of another color. Thanks for all of your help folks.

    Firefish Experience

Does anyone have experience with firefish? I would like one more small fish to my 55 FOWLR. Ideally, I would like a fish that hangs out "in" the live rock. Three of my four fish swim out in the open most of the time. The Potter's Angel is the only one that stays low in the tank. Would a Blenny...
