i have a 20gal tank with 7 tetra in it planning to get more soon and a female fighter with plenty of wood, plants and rocks lately i've been thinking of making a new addition but dont want to overcrowd maby something that would be happy alone or as a pair any suggestions
i was going to see if it would be a cheaper option for a soil like substrate i already got sand down but it wont hold nutrients i was going to use root tabs but theyre not shrimp friendly so il try the coconut brick instead mixed with the sand and little fine gravel

it might be that you added too many fish too quickly with a new tank you need to stock gradually to help the tank develop its own little ecosystem a few fish every couple of weeks. see if you can buy any live bacteria for conditioning water at your lfs i only use that stuff now and swear by...

i have a female betta a few months back i bought some cherry shrimp off ebay they were around 1cm long so i thought they were safe she ate the lot they werent even safe hiding in my moss and ferns because once she tasted shrimp she actively hunted the rest out
to add without clouding your water fill a small cola bottle almost full with sand then fill to the top with tank water then if you pour carefully not too far from the aquarium floor the sand will flow out and the small fine particles will float up and be trapped in the bottle.
