lonely swordtail

can anybody help me a few months back i had a tank full of platy and a couple of swords after a catostrophy the only thing i had left was a male swordtail he thrived while on his own, he was more active his colour bloomed and he seemed happy while i got the tank water back to normal. I recently added 9 tetra now he seems lonely now i think i've even seen him try shoal with them does he need to be with other platys/swords or am i worrying
