I have a 28 gallon bowfront, maintained for about 6 - 9 months now. Fully cycled. 10 Black Phantom Tetras, 7 Zebra Danios, One 4" pleco (he grew a bit since i got him), 2 snails 1 med 1 tiny, 3 small catfish (lessthan 1") Water values are as follows
pH 7.0
Temp 74-76 F
Nitrite, Nitrate, Ammonia...
pH 7.2
Nitrates 20
Nitrites 0
Ammonia 0
Temp 78°
Tank is fully cycled with 1 pleco, 1 large snail, 1 baby tiny snail, 1 ghost shrimp, 2 zebra danios, 10 black phantom tetras
Some of these tetras have had this for a long time.
I don't know what it is? Why are there white tips on their fins...
pH 7.2
Temp ~78°F
Ammonia ~1 ppm
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 0
Chrlorine 0
10 Black Phantom Tetras
1 Snail
1 Pleco
28 Gallon Bowfront
Biowheel with single filter.
I can't seem to figure this one out. I change my water about once a week 30% - 50% changes weekly.
Everyone in the tank is doing fine...
Ok well its been about 2 weeks. The fish is still as eratic as it was on the first day. I removed the fish from the main tank and put him in a fish bowl. I change the water about every 2-3 days and treat the bowl with stress zyme. He had some fin damage (think he was getting picked on) and since...
Temp 79°F
Ammonia 0.25 ppm
Nitrite, Nitrate, Chlorine, 0
So I did a water change when the tank hit about 4 ppm ammonia. A big one, after the change I did a test. 1-2 ppm. Closely monitored the fish, they all were ok. No red gill.
So heres the odd part. Ammonia dropped down to 0.25 ppm about 2...
The red gill problem seemed to be associated with water quality and not so much water temperature. I got A/C put in my room and now the heater seems to be holding the tank at a steady 78° which I think is right for what I have.
The ammonia was getting up into the 2 to 4 ppm range so now I have...
My girlfriend had a couple of small betta tanks and it got me thinking about how much I wanted a tank. I always had one as a kid but never got around to getting a tank again until now. She had to give away one of her bettas because she just started to have too many fish so that was my excuse to...
So I ended up testing the water again, got the following
0ppm chlorine
0ppm nitrite
0ppm nitrate
2ppm ammonia
pH 7.4
Temp. 79°F
75% water change, the crazy fish isn't acting so crazy anymore. His behavior has dwindled down to somewhat of a drunken swim but it's condition seems to be improving...
So here is my issue....
I have had my tank running for about a month (4 weeks) now. Not really sure where I am at in my nitrogen cycle. But I will start with last nights water specs....
28 gallon bowfront / biowheel / heater / unknown filter
Ammonia 2ppm
Nitrite 0ppm
Nitrate 0ppm
Chlorine 0ppm...
What is the importance of buying an air pump and putting an air stone and all inside my 28 gallon bow front. I have heard some say I need it, others said don't worry about it. I mean I understand, it has something to do with the oxygenation of the water but the water has a lot of surface area...
Ok, I will admit I probably overfed my fish so we can get beyond that now to simply fixing the problem at hand.
Part 1 - Tested my water on friday, tank shows 0.25 ppm Ammonia (nitrogen cycle starting? 0 for all other values.
Part 2 - White, fuzzy, cloud crap growing on two algae tabs that sat...
Perhaps dilute HCl? AND I MEAN DILUTE! And that will only bring it down temporarily... Sounds like the tank needs a good clean. The water to start with is alkaline so you need to start with as clean a platform as possible. 7.8 isnt horrible. Mine is 7.6.
