    About to give up!

Cd I think we've already established the fact that the "expert" wasn't up to par and I am researching thats why I had all the info to give out. I've kept aquariums for a very long time. This is the first one I've had this much trouble with. I've moved tanks from MO to WY to IN back to MO...

    About to give up!

I've checked the city water and nothing. Overstocked???? 11 fish in a 39 gal??? I'm amazed by this especially since my LFS keeps tellin me I can put up to 29 fish in there (never made it though). Another kicker is that a friend of mine bought the very same setup and is having identical...

    About to give up!

Thank you. I've added the aquarium salts and I onlt feed then once a day plus i skip a day after 3. The "expert" kept telling me I was feeding them to much also but I barely fed them. Oh by the way...2 more fish dead plus the water has a yellow tinge to it.... I'm not a happy...

    About to give up!

I'm at my wits end....... I put up a 39 gal tank with a Penguin 170 biowheel filter. I've had nothing but problems with nitrates spiking everytime I turn around. The so called "experts" here have me so frustrated that I really don't care to have the tank anymore. I just spent $60 on more...

    fresh water red crabs

Thank you. It was very helpful. Sorry I haven't replied sooner. This is my busy season and travel ALOT. I only have one crab. He was pretty active at first but now he hides in a log all the time. Yes, they can climb and sit in the filter eating algae and stuff off of it. I had to...

    fresh water red crabs

Does anyone know anything on the small red crabs that you can get at LFS? They didn't have a scientific name posted so I can't get any info on them. I had one molt already....which was exciting.......but it made me wonder....just how big can it get???? I have a 39 gal FW. Any info would...

    We Made It!

I'm still waiting...~sigh~...... Messed up doing partial water changes....it was just way to much fun sucking up the rocks in the vacuum....... Oh well so I'm still stuck in the ammonia phase...darn it! And I thought I had only a week left to wait or less. But I'm still having...

    Parasites???

Are you near a university? I'd take some samples (H2O, plant) in water to one of the science labs (microbiology, invertebrate zoology) and ask them to ID them for you. It could be any kind of microorganism. Mantis

What to put in my new tank

Well.........on the cycling I'd suggest not using tetras. All mine died. Everyone is suggesting the zebra danios which I'll probably buy today to keep the cycle going. I also have high alkaline ph 8. My tank has been setup for a week. Waiting is the hardest part. Is there a test to...

    Tetras vs Barbs

Thank you. It looks like the tank will have a mix of barbs/tetras and 1 pair of honey dwarf gouramis. Thanks. Which mag is FAM and how do you get it? Mantis

    Tetras vs Barbs

I have noticed at the fish stores that I visit that the names of fish aren't always acurate. My cardinal tetras (which I still have 3!) were also called something tipped Barb. So now, is there a main difference and can they both get along in a tank? I'm planning on putting honey and dwarf...

    BUG ID

It looks to be a dragonfly nymph from the picture. It can be a predator of small fish but it also likes small aquatic organisms. The larger dragonfly darners (Aeshnidae) are the ones who can prey on small fish. They are considered to be a beneficial insect. Mantis
