Looks like it's been quite a while since I've updated this thread.
Setting up the tank turned into quite a bit larger project than I had initially planned, usually how these things seem to go.
I was able to fix the small leak in the bulkhead fairly easily, but when I got it set up the tank...
Has anyone used flexible pvc hose instead of ridgid pipe. Something kind of like this:
1-1/2" Flexible PVC Hose - Pond Supplies Canada
I could elimate the straight drop section of pipe which I think is one of the areas causing a lot of noise.
Thanks for the reply, I had planned on just the screen and a straight pipe but due to the placement of the bulkhead I would have lost at least 4" and 30 gallons of capacity. I'm going to try an angled set up with the elbow and see if that helps.
In the mean time I've played around a bit more...
Hi
I'm working on setting up my first sump and feel like I'm missing a few things. The overflow from my display tank seems very loud, I can hear water loudly as it falls into the overflow and down the pipe to my sump. I tried to take the water as directly as I could to the sump, but maybe that...
Update time!
I've been working on finding a nice way to finish the trim boards for the stand, still not totally happy with how they are looking.
I decided to set up the tank and finish the stand in place so I can test out everything and get it cycling. I got everything in place and put back...
Just got my latest order of fish food online and it came with a flyer for Python water treatment products. I can't find a lot of information about them online. T
They have a multi purpose water conditioner, looks similar to Prime, a Bio-Clean product and a Bio-Support product that claims to...
I really wanted to paint a nice black background but the tank already has a white one stuck very well to the back. I tried removing a small area in a hidden corner, but I wasn't going to be able to remove it completely.
The white looks decent, and I think it will work when it is all set up...
Just wanted to give a quick update. I've got the tank and sump all cleaned. Polished up nice with just some vinegar. Substrate is on order. I went with an aragonite sand to keep the water at a nice ph level. I have a nice pile of found rocks for hardscaping, but I'm not sure if I'll use them or...
I'm not worried about the old owner using strong meds or anything like that. I had a chance to see the tank before it was taken apart and the fish removed. Everything looked healthy, and she seemed to know how to care for her fish fairly well.
I don't think I'll bleach it, I'm worried I...
I recently acquired a sump for my aquarium which came with a large amount of bio media in bags. I'm assuming most of the bacteria will have died off by now, but I'd still like to reuse the media rather than purchase a bunch of new stuff. I'm still planning on cycling and will be seeding with...
I did consider using that but I want doors and couldn't figure a nice way to match them. I'm leaning towards staining/aging some pine 1x4s and using that. Kind of a barn board look.
The stand is level, or very close to it. I hadn't noticed how much the picture makes it look like it drops off on the back corner. I think that's from using the wide angle mode on my cell phone camera.
Bought a used tank and it came with a glass top. The top glass has plastic trim pieces at the back and it is broken in a few spots. I would like to fix this if possible.

The glass is in good shape so if possible I would like to order just the plastic trim. Anybody have...
