That's what I thought. When dormant though they retract completely into the pad. Is that normal? The pic is from about 20 minutes after the lights turned on. Some are already extended. Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

Recommendations for Sand use in Freshwater tank

Pool filter sand is great and very cheap. I purchase mine at walmart, 3-5 dollars for a bag. 2 1/2 bags did a 50 and 49 (hex) of mine, 1 bag for my 29 gal. Just be sure to rinse it! Put 1/4 in a 5 gal bucket and stick a garden hose in it. Push the hose to the bottom and stir around. Fill...

    I dropped Nemo

I'm not a saltwater keeper...but I did have a goldfish when I was younger that constantly jumped from my tank during the night. I'd find him/her in the morning, dried to the point that it was sticky or completely dry, and place it back in the tank. This went on for years with no damage to the...

    Pool Filter Sand?

I switched to sand when I started my most recent tank. The fish love it and there has been no problems with the plants...actually seem to be rooting faster! The fish love the sand, the've dug caves under some of the rocks. Great for cleaning too, not a whole lot of waste gets caught up on the...

    gravel or sand???

I've recently changed to sand. I prefer it 100 to 1, much cleaner than the gravel. Food particles and waste don't get stuck, the movement of the fish around the bottom keep it stirred enough to allow the filter to do it's work.

    New to the forum

Good morning I currently have 3 tanks. A 29 gal JAD I converted to a planted fresh water (mollies, guppies, red eyes, a snail, and a dozen or so ghost shrimp). My other two tanks are 10 gl breeding and quarinteen. I've had fish since I was little...so I have some experiance. I'm in the...
