I thought about doing that, but the hood is black plastic and I don't fancy having a non-covered tank with a crab in it, don't fancy waking up with him tucked up in my bed. :?
The hood has no fixtures in it whatsoever, it is a thin plastic hood that sits on the top of the tank overlapping at the edges, so any light I put in will need a fitting putting in too. I'll take a picture later and post it if possible.

This would probably not be such a problem as the water only has about 0.5 square cm to escape from, the rest of the top is sealed very well????

Is there any way i can stop condesation appearing on the side of my half-filled crab tank, it's pretty annoying cos it's hard to see in except in the water-filled part of it. Is there anything I can do to prevent the condesation building up, there isn't even a heater in the tank, it's just the...
thanks for the replies, got it set up now and i'm gonna put 1 crab in. Anyone know what temps the red-crabs like? Does anyone know any decent links to info about them, it seems hard to find stuff about them on the web?
