It was the light. I had it on WAY to long. I scrubbed off the algae and have cut way back, which has helped a ton. But it was a pretty nasty bloom of it.
So when I set the tank back up after the move it's going to be an issue again since I'm re-using the filter?
I have a bloom of algae on my tank walls and the tubes running into the tank. I'm about to move into my new house so I have to empty the tanks anyways and I'm going to do a REALLY good clean on them (probably switch gravel as well as I've been wanting to do that for awhile now).
My biggest...
I have a mbuna tank right now with all fish being around 2". I have gravel substrate. I was wondering if I could safety switch to sand substrate and how I'd even go about doing that?
I don't currently have any spare tanks to house the fish, and I imagine putting sand in and then water would...
Okay. So the 75 is coming probably another few months. Just planning ahead.
So you suggest moving all the mbuna over into the 75 gallon and then making the current 29 gallon a shell dwelling tank?
Few questions:
1. Is there anything that will go well with the shell dwellers?
2. How would...
I found a guy in my city who can get me shell dwellers at 5 for $10 (so $2/each)... if I get 10 of them he'll give em to me for $15 total.
I gotta decide how many and what other cichlids they will work with though in the 75 gallon.
You need more surface agitation, not necessarily water "movement". Do you not have any air stones or wands or anything like that? You really need to add some if not. It helps with the oxygen in the water. It will also take care of your film on the surface issue.

Here is a link to info about them: Shell Dwellers
I'm still researching... just want to know if they can handle themselves with other cichlids as they are so darn small... or if it has to be a shell dwelling tank ONLY.
So... soon I'll be picking up a 75 gallon tank (to add to my collection of 2 5gallons and 1 29gallon).... I want it to be a cichlid tank (my current 29 gallon is a mbuna tank).
I'll most likely be moving over some of my cichlids from the 29 gallon as some might get a tad big for it... but after...
So let me ask you this... if I have 6.. so that's 12-18 pellets... do you just dump them all in at once or actually try to feed to certain fish (which is pretty impossible from my guess lol)....
I'd say now I'm doing just about that much... probably closer to the 18 mark... but I'm def. NOT...
Yes? To which part of the question ;) Not trying to be difficult just wanting to make sure I get this right... I really like all these little guys.
I just want to make sure nobody goes starving while the slightly bigger ones pig out but I don't want to overfeed them either (like it appears I...
I appreciate the feedback for sure. And I Just noticed the belly's tonight, and I am always looking closely at them so I don't think it's been an ongoing issue.. but since I noticed it tonight I feel it's an issue I def. need to address so it doesn't become a real problem.
I'll def. be fasting...
