Aquaclear with 2 sponges on the bottom and the Bio-Max on top, no carbon. My thoughts I can change out one sponge at a time and keep a dirty one to seed the new one when it's time to change the filters it they start falling apart.

I have two sponges in my Aqua Clear and the Bio Filter. My plan is if a sponge needs replaced, change one at a time and leave an established one in. I agree to get rid of the carbon unless you need it for something specific.

One other item looking at your test results picture. Do a pH with the higher end pH test. It looks like you may be above the upper limit on the Low pH test.

Keep us update and check your water daily. My started cycling in less than 24 hours after adding the active media. Also, I squeezed the media and dumped the water from the bag over my current sponges in the HOB filter. The tank is cycled and it went quickly so keep an eye on you test results.
