How do I transfer fish from a low pH to normal pH tank?

Thanks, everyone. Our LFS contact is in the middle of a location move so I won't be able to talk to him until later this week. We'll definately use the drip method outlined earlier when it comes time to transfer the Angelfish. Funny though . . . the fish doesn't seem to mind the low pH as...

How do I transfer fish from a low pH to normal pH tank?

I've let the dechlorinated water sit (in a closed) jug overnight and the pH is 7.6. And yes this is the quarantine tank. Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Ferret, we just bough new air hoses so we're set there! However, we'll be starting treatment with Pimafix and Melafix shortly in the...

How do I transfer fish from a low pH to normal pH tank?

I've got a Silver Zebra Angelfish that has got to be moved from a 2 gallon tank to a larger tank. The 2 gallon has a pH of 6.0 and the larger tank has a 7.0 pH. The guy at PetSmart suggests putting the fish in a bag (with water from the 2 gallon tank of course). Then every 5 minutes add 1...

    New Tank, First Snags

I've seen the same thing. However, I'm dealing with a low pH with a high gH/Kh problem in a little 2 gallon hospital tank. I've read elsewhere that sometimes a high gH/Kh can prevent pH adjustors (yes, I know, that's frowned on too) from working. So I did a water change with the distilled to...

Sick Angel with Fin Rot and Septicemia

Duh! (smacking forehead) that's included in the general hardness test kit. Straight from the tap the pH is 7.6 and the dkH is 7 (125.3 ppm). The 2 gal QT tank is pH 6.0 (again!) and the dkH is 8 (143.2 ppm). I just want the pH to get up to 6.5 or 6.6 so I can get the fish into a larger tank...

    New Tank, First Snags

Along the Foothills area. . . I know we are technically using the same water as Denver proper uses but I don't know if Aurora does. I've found that our Vitamin Cottage prices were slightly cheaper for Deep Rock Distilled water than Safeway. (At least on the gallon level . . . I can't remember...

Sick Angel with Fin Rot and Septicemia

It's the Septicemia. The fins have almost completely healed. I've tried 10 days each of Maracyn combined with Maracyn 2, Kanamycin (but it may not of worked 'cause I don't think my pellets absorbed it real well), and Furazone Light. The LFS said it could be that the meds won't work completely...

    New Tank, First Snags

AquaBear, I'm in Colorado too! Have you tested the tap water to see what it's normal parameters are? I know mine is 7.6 pH, 6 dGH, 0 Ammonia/Nitrite . . . We use PRIME to dechlorinate, etc. and have had good success with it. On major changes (more than 25%) we'll do half tap water and half...

    Crushed Coral in Freshwater Tank?

My daughter had a goldfish for a while. (It's what got us started. ::sigh::) The average ammonia in the tank with the goldfish was around 2.0 (even after the tank cycled). I was told this is common symptom with goldfish because they're "messy". (Boy are they! Speaking from experience here...

Sick Angel with Fin Rot and Septicemia

Well, it's been a month since I posted on this. We seem to have hit a stall here. Nothing gets rid of the infection 100 percent it seems. However, one of the problems is that for some unknown reason my pH keeps lowering itself! It's been maintaining at 6.0 pH. Our tap water pH is 7.6 so...

    algea wafers

My Angelfish plays "keep away" with our algae wafers. So I've started breaking them into smaller bits to scatter. This way the Cory actually gets some! Sometimes the Angelfish follows the Cory around. When the Cory finds the wafer bit the Angelfish will steal it! I've only witnessed...

Sick Angel with Fin Rot and Septicemia

The Fish is doing a lot better. It's fins are almost completely healed now. It's very difficult to see any sign of septicemia. In fact my husband thinks I'm just seeing things when I say I still see a very faint red spot. How long should I keep the sick fish in QT. (I'm assuming at least...

    Varied Diet?

I actually took one of the fish in to the LFS and the guy said that the fish looked healthy (no protruding scales, etc.) and appeared to be female. He said to watch the fish closely and that it could be just that they were about to lay eggs. However, now I have a different diet question. What...

Sick Angel with Fin Rot and Septicemia

I started the Kanamycin yesterday. The PetSmart guy (who seemed really knowledgeable and claimed to have his own large tank . . . really confident about what he was saying) said to avoid any chance of mold developing on presoaked, medicated food to fix it up daily instead of all at once. He...

Sick Angel with Fin Rot and Septicemia

I just surfed on the net looking for Kanamycin. I found 2 local stores that carry it. The difference is 1 store's Kanamycin adds a little bit of sodium chloride in the capsule as well. Which medication would be better for septicemia . . . the Kanamycin with or without the sodium chloride?
