Update: wife was able to find the rest of the cardinal tetras, so I guess they were just hiding really well. I have asked her to turn the CO2 all the way down to about 1 bubble every 5-10 seconds. I'm otherwise planning on doing the rest of the above unless anyone has any other suggestions.
Hi everyone,
It's been a while since I've posted here, but I've come running back with my tail in between my legs.
I have a 30-gallon freshwater tank that has been going for about 10 or so months. Since I got livestock in there, everything has done quite well: I still have the same 4 Dalmatian...
I've got sufficient light, I think (running two LED lights - a Finnex Planted+ 24/7 as well as a Current Satellite Freshwater light). At this point I think the only thing I'm likely short on in the nutrient department is CO2, which I'm hoping to address by double-dosing the Excel.
I appreciate...
Saw this product in one of my LFS and was intrigued. I ended up buying a bottle and have been dosing it daily for about a week as directed on the bottle. Haven't really noticed much of a difference.
Has anyone tried this product? I'm curious if anyone has had any good or bad experiences.
I'm...
Sounds like you are in step 2 of your cycle. Patience, patience, patience my friend. I agree with stopping ammonia addition - or at least reducing its frequency. Your "cycle" is essentially "stalled" due to a lack of bacteria that convert nitrite to nitrate. They're there - since you're getting...
This is my concern - unless pre-cycled media was added, I highly doubt a tank was cycled in ~1 week. Then again, if it wasn't cycled and fish have been in there for ~2 weeks, I would expect the parameters to be more abnormal.
As it comes, it would probably be a problem if your fish are quite small. However, you could fix this pretty easily I think: either by adding a sponge at the end, or by rigging some kind of mesh to surround the actual intake. The former would probably be easier.
I've got two cats (about 4 years old) and they generally aren't that interested in my tank. They were quite excited when I first added fish, but other than that they couldn't care less it seems. One of them loves chasing the water in the Python when I do water changes, but other than that they...
I would suggest buying a Python if you have some cash handy. It makes water changes so much less painful. Before, a large water change (80%+) would take me about an hour on my 30-gallon using a 2-gallon bucket, walking it over to the kitchen, conditioning water, etc.. With the Python, I can do a...
With respect to your cycle: how long has it been since you started cycling? What have you been using as an ammonia source? Have you seen a rise and fall in both your ammonia and nitrites?
Just based on your parameters, it looks like your tank is cycled unless you somehow got nitrates from...
Can't comment on the Eheim filters, but I have a Fluval 206 for my 30-gallon and love the thing. It's pretty quiet, has adjustable flow, and has a pretty large (in my opinion) volume for media as well as three trays built in. I haven't had any trouble with it so far. And for ~$100 on Amazon, I...
Hah, agreed. Unfortunately there are some things that we have to deal with. OP, you could consider getting an N95 mask (maybe $2-3 from a local construction shop) if you really find the smell that repulsive.
