Bingo. I value my fish enough NOT to feed them so they don't die of ammonia poisoning. I don't know anybody who can come over and properly do water changes. So between fasting and being poisoned...I'll go ahead and choose the former.
...and they all lived! I have to admit I was nervous about that, but some people online said it would be alright. Since I have discus and GBR's, which are sensitive, I wasn't sure.
Arrived home with quite a bit of nervousness...I wouldn't have been surprised if all were dead. Yet, I counted...
I was doing a water change just now, and was vacuuming the sand a bit. I went behind some driftwood and noticed one of my corie floating into the tube. I switched the valve right away so he didn't go through. Upon exiting, he floated limply into the water, dead.
I'm not sure if he was dead...
You can, but what is likely to happen then is that the most voracious feeders are going to get what little falls down from the feeder and the rest will get none. When I feed, I definitely spread it out and ensure that everybody eats. If I just dropped a little in, I guarantee that most of the...
We really don't. We don't have many, if any, friends in this area. That doesn't say much for us considering we've lived here for nearly 5 years. I don't know of anybody we'd really trust to do that. Basically, it's all (automatic feeder) or nothing.
I've heard it isn't unheard of them to not eat for weeks in the wild. So, I'm feeling cautiously optimistic about this. We go on a couple vacations a year, so this will really be my litmus test for future vacations.
I think it's just hard to believe instinctively because you wouldn't leave a human without food for that long, and you wouldn't leave your cat or dog without food for that long either. But from what people say, the metabolism in fish is much lower and can sustain themselves over that amount of...
Going on vacation starting Saturday for 8 days. I've seen a few people online saying it's acceptable to leave fish without food for that amount of time.
So, to those who have asked in the past about what to do during vacation time, I'll keep you updated about the condition (or lack thereof)...
I tried it briefly and rehomed the angels because the temperaments just weren't working together for me. Discus need to be the kings of their domains and angels don't always respect that.
I've worn as a badge of pride that we've managed to keep all of our 6 German Blue Rams (GBR's) alive for the past 2 months. Since everybody has posted problems keeping them alive, and the store wouldn't even guarantee them at all, I used this as an example of how well we were doing.
Well...
You could get a few glass cats if you wanted. They hardly move around. I'm not sure about tetras, as I've never kept them, but they're small and look kind of cool in a school.
