Is Python a DGV? I use that semi weekly and shove it down into my 1 1/2-2 inch deep gravel and suck junk out of it. Is this considered Deep Gravel Vaccum?

When your tank is cycled the nitrIte will be 0 and the nitrAte will be 0. The ammonia should stay down along with the pH will be nutral? Is this correct? The link I read is for saltwater. Is this the same thing for freshwater...
I don't know....when questioned no one admits to it.
Here are the numbers I got.
NitrAtes: 0
NitrItes: 0
Ammonia: 8 and darker than that darn colored strip
Ph: 6.0
I did the water change will do another one tomorrow. From what I am reading, the white coloring I am seeing in the slime coats...
My ammonia problem seemed to be solved. NitrItes: 0ppm, Ammonia: 0ppm, Ph: 6.8-7, and NitrAtes: 10 ish. I removed that Zeolite. The levels held steady. Been several days now. I have been turning off the lights at night. I added a new food, have been giving them a few pellets of...
I didn't realize I had a dead snail and also snails doing "whoopie"... I now have removed the dead one and have eggs on the top wall. The tank has been up about 5 months or so. Not quite new but still cycling I am sure.

My ammonia is down to 2.0. I have done water changes 25% until yesterday when I didn't do one at all. Today I put in the Zeolite that my local pet shop sold me to get it down. 2.0 down from almost off the scale 8.+ is pretty good but still need to get down to 0. The snails making...
I went to the local small pet store in town and the owner gave me Zeolite said it would remove the ammonia. I put in a good sack and the ammonia is already lowered. I did 1/4 water change daily and used Ammonia Lock stuff. Seems better but I will keep checking daily until it is 0ppm...
Since I have been into ponding since 1998 and he was into sw aquaria for several years before we met, it was just a natural thing after we got married last May. :) Hope you all have as much fun as I am having, now if I could just get that pesky ammonia reading down. :(
And if he would...
My husband hates goldfish and snails and would have saltwater and tropicals, regardless. We now have his and hers tanks. Hands off mine and I will hands off yours. :) I think this will keep us both happy. We will see.

Yes I was shocked as well... I told him my tank smells like PEE. That is when I found the dead snail. Would Activated Carbon help? I have some that is loose and I could put it in a knee hi or something and lay on the bottom, so it would be circulated by the underwater filter. Thanks Mr...
I also have a bubble curtain across the back bottom of the tank. I feed the g/f "goldfish nuggets" by HBH and I feed the snails fresh, whole leaf spinach, squash of different varieties, and celery chunks. The baby snails in the breeder net get to munch on my new tender leaves coming up on my...
I have a 55 gallon tank that I have several bunches of anacharis and a couple of swords that I switch out into my breeder net (to keep them leafy). My snails eat them down to my gravel. I have 2 quite large ones (the pet store guy called them apple snails but they are not golden) and 2...
