I had that hair algae in my 55 gal I put plecos in they did nothing then I put in a Chinese algae eater in and in two days 95% of all my algae was gone

Is the water test kit your using the strips or a fresh water master test kit from what I've learned the strips are very inaccurate and the test kits that you add drops in a test tube are very accurate ?

If it's not the starter or the bulbs then its prob the ballast. a rectangular shaped thing inside the light fixture.the home depot or lowes or most hardware stores have them. just make sure you replace it with one identical with same watts and voltage .

You could put media in cut off sections of pantyhose tied off at both ends that will make it much easier changing it out.

I think your right I looked it up and saw a picture of an adult mine are juvinille. the markings are the same more defined in the adult picture.is there an easier name that people call these?

I bought 2 of these for my 55 and once I got home I forgot their name

I feed insects to my oscars and pacu's.I've never had any problems insects are very high in protein. I feed them as a treat .

Is your water temprature in proper range big fluctuations in temp will kill fish

I love my leporinus too he is my centerpiece fish in my 150 gal. he is over a foot long and was too aggressive in the 55gal tank I had him in.he tamed down a lot when I put him in with my two pacu's and two oscars .

I would do daily pwc untilyou get it fixed or get another one to keep nitrates and amonia levels down

From my own personal experience your fish will go byebye if you put a crawfish in with them if you want a crawlfish get a second tank specificaly for crawlfish
