UV filter for 10-gallon tank - how many watts or what model?

After fighting fin rot multiple times and Ich in my community tank, I would like to get a UV filter for it. These episodes have come from fish I brought home and did not quarantine (I know, I know... lesson learned), but even though I won't be making that mistake again, I'd like to invest in a...

    Change Water with 0 Nitrates?

I have a planted tank set up with a few ottos and platys and snails. My ammonia, nitrites and nitrates are always 0 across the board, and have been for months. I do a monthly water change out of habit, but I'm wondering if there's any point. Is it helping the fish? Is there any point in changing...

    Oto missing from 10g tank!

Nope, just plants, rocks and driftwood. Have a sponge over the HOB filter intake as well.

    Oto missing from 10g tank!

We have a dog, I guess either of those is possible. Could the platys have finished him off in a day?

    Oto missing from 10g tank!

I have a 10g tank with 2 otos, 2 platys and 1 ghost shrimp. Tonight I found that one of the ottos is missing. I know they can be hard to find but I just spent 20 minutes poking anything and everything to be sure he wasn't just misplaced. Any thoughts on what could have happened to him? No signs...

Specs on inside of tank while treating ICH?

Thank you both. Not air bubbles. I put it to 90 because I heard that some strains of ICH are more resistant than others and I wanted to be safe since I couldn't add any salt to the tank. Thanks, I did read that article. The problem with heating to 86 degrees exactly is that if your...

    temp kill ick???

I am on day 3 of having my temp at 90 degrees. One of my ottos is still getting a few more spots. Is that cause for concern or will they still continue to appear if they are at that point in the lifecycle?

    temp kill ick???

DA Fisherman, not sure where you are getting your info but many people here and elsewhere have defeated ICH with temperature alone. Also remember there is FW ICH and marine ICH. OP is talking about FW ICH.

Sudden death - entire tank. Thoughts?

When I replace my filter, I empty the charcoal out of the old one and stick the old filtermedia in the HOB filter. Helps to speed up or even avoid the minicycle completely.

    Temp kill ick??

I can't speak from prior experience, but I've been reading about this non-stop for the last three days because I have the same problem, so here is what I have found. Heating a tank to 86 degrees F will kill most instances of ICH. There are two failure cases you have to watch out for: 1) Some...

Specs on inside of tank while treating ICH?

I am treating my tank for ICH (heated to 90 degrees F), and I notice this on the side of my tank: Are these bits of ICH attached to the side or are they something else? I have a platy quarantined in a separate tank being treated with salt, and I don't see anything on the side of that tank.

Quarantine tank setup for use with quarantined plants?

Awesome, thanks. This will hugely simplify my quarantine tank. I was worried I'd be sanitizing gravel... blech. Thanks again.
