After fighting fin rot multiple times and Ich in my community tank, I would like to get a UV filter for it. These episodes have come from fish I brought home and did not quarantine (I know, I know... lesson learned), but even though I won't be making that mistake again, I'd like to invest in a UV filter to help prevent future outbreaks. I cannot treat my whole tank with the conventional measures because I have plants and sensitive fish.
My question is which UV filter should I get? I understand that what will get killed by UV is a function of flow rate and wattage. More wattage/slower flow = kills more bacteria and parasites. Any opinions on what model would be best to kill free-floating bacteria/protozoa/fungi (not just algae) in a 10G?
