Is it ok to wash new carbon and Gfo under tap water? Is that how most of you rinse it?

Some of my zoas seem to be losing color. Multiplying like crazy just have no color. Is this due to bleaching? Or is this just what type it is? How do I safely get rid of then or thin them. They used to be mostly the color of the one in the upper right.
