They do fine in brackish water. I actually had a a few successfully breed in brackish water although the offspring didn't last too long.

Shrimp just breed as long as there is a male and female. You will most likely end up with dull looking offspring though since they will mix.

One thing I like to do when I test my water is do two tests. One with tank water and one with pure RO water and then compare the two. The RO water will not have ammonia so any difference between the two will point to ammonia. Hope that helps.
