I would stay away from terrarium backgrounds. They are mostly for above water purposes. There are polystyrens backgrounds available at many LFSs that are intended for underwater use. I don't know what the difference is in their coatings, but I'd rather not take the chance on the finish flaking...

AFAIK, they are mostly franchises. So you are subject to the local management.

dogs and cats eat meat. people feed live crickets, worms, etc to lizards. People buy live rats/mice to feed to their snakes. Pretty tough to start drawing a line in the sand while letting the other things continue.

if you are not adverse to chemical treatments... algae treatments will work. As it ills the algae, the snails eat it and voila... snails gone.

I have an XP2 and XP3 on my 75. One of the two will usually get this air bubble after filter servicing.

I don't think the algae could survive all of that ammonia
