    Mithrax Crab

Mine always eat it unless the bubbles get too large. If there isn't any, they'll pick and eat whatever they can find. Looks like their whole mission in life is to eat.

Whats the easiest way to get rid of bristle worms?

Coral Banded shrimp supposedly eat them. I've never seen my banded eat one in two years. Pseudochromis fridmani are supposed to eat them too. When I first saw a bristle worm I got panicky and started to try to figure out how to get rid of them. Further research suggests that there are actually...

    Algae

Thanks for the reference to the article. From the pictures and descriptions, mine looks pretty much like Thread algae. Maybe my first step should be to stop adding supplements until I figure out exactly how to control it. I'll have to read the label, but I'm thinking that Flourish adds IRON.

    Reverse Osmosis Unit inquiry

Check ebay. I found one for under $100. Seems like a decent built unit and the water coming out reads 0 or 1. I've only been using the RO/DI water for a couple months, but the tank does look better. Seems like i'm scraping the glass a lot less.

    Algae

I've had freshwater tanks in the past, and after several years of having just a reef tank, I decide to start them up again. I currently have two 30 gals set up and running for maybe 5 or 6 months now. One has a Marineland Emperor 400 filter, the other a Whisper. I only have fish in one tank...

    FOWLR skimmer

How important is a skimmer in a FOWLR tank? Should I expect it to pull anywhere near the same amount of crud as in a reef tank? I have a 55 gal reef with a Remora Pro that I clean on a routine basis. It's a great skimmer, easy to set up and keep going properly. My FOWLR is a 40 long. I have...

    ro/di system info

I bought the aquasafe system a few weeks ago, seems to be working great. Before hooking it up, I unscrewed some of the fittings that were not teflon taped and sealed them with a little silicone. The ones with tape (which I thought very strange since they tell you that teflon tape doesn't work...

    Water changes

Not even just the amount of work. Your comment really made me think. I wish I had some money for every time I was going to make an "improvement" to something and hurried it just a little too much. Glad you said that, made me think that there is no hurry and no sense putting all the inhabitants...

    Water changes

Probably the best advise I could have possibly received. I guess I didn't consider that the water I've been using has been okay for this many years, a few more weeks won't hurt anything. Thanks. After I thought about it, it would be a real struggle to change water every couple days anyway. I'm...

    Water changes

Can water be changed too frequently? Due to the fact that I recently purchased a RO/DI filter, I am now anxious to get the cleaner water in my tanks. As far as I can figure, it's going to take a while to see the effect. If I change 10% - 15% once a week, it will be a while before the old water...

    emerald crab?

I have a couple that are now getting to be about 3 inches across. First time I ever had them grow so large. They haven't bothered a thing. When I feed, they come tearing out from wherever they are hiding and grab for the food. But to this point, they haven't bothered the peppermint shrimp...

    New Corals

Thanks, Reefrunner. Maybe I didn't even describe what I was seeing properly. Since these are my first hard corals, I really didn't know what to expect. I tried to choose wisely, something that might be a little easier to keep, not need TONS of light, and not be too agressive. Hopefully, I met...

    New Corals

I have had my reef tank for several years. Up till now, I only had soft corals, all of which have done very well. Last week I decided to give hard corals a try. I bought a Brain Coral, Lobophyllia and Candy Cane Coral (Caulastrea furcata). My tank is a 55gal with CSL Moonlight (4x65PC)...

    I finally bought one (RO/DI)

I don't have one yet (TDS meter). I've been seriously considering getting the inline one from aquariumwaterfilters.com. Checks after RO and DI. I was planning on getting a pressure gage too, as I don't see one on that unit for some reason. I don't have it yet, supposed to get here Wednesday.

    Bristle Worms UPDATED W/ Picture

Have you actually seen the coral banded shrimp eat them? I bought one, hoping it would start to clean out some of the bristle worms, but I've yet to see the shrimp eat one. I also have a Fridmani Pseudochromis, which I read is supposed to eat bristle worms. The fish and shrimp have been in the...
