I noticed last night when I went to feed my two dwarf puffers that the one wasn't eating & wouldn't even come up to the glass as usual. Typically the two come right up to the glass anytime I walk over to the tank. Today he was floating up near the top & was spinning in right circles.. Seeming...
I did some research and my nitrates are at zero due to my plants, over filtration and under stocked. My plants absorb any nitrates in there and with puffers you need heavy filtration due to their amount of waste and you can only have 1 puffer for every 5 gallons. And puffers aren't fond of tank...
The tank has been set up for about 2 months now and it used to hold one betta, 3 julie corys and 5 cherry barbs before I recently upgraded up them a 20 gallon. Is it possible the tank is still not yet cycled? I did a 50% water change today for the puffers...could that have anything to do with it?
I currently have two dwarf puffers in a 10 gallon planted tank. Tank mates include one otto and ghost shrimp. My water perimeters currently read Ph:7.6 Nitrates: 0 Nitrites: 0 and Ammonia: .25. Everything reads well except the slight amount of Ammonia. Is this reading anything I should worry...
Awesome! Yes I recommend sand for the puffers because rougher substrates can hurt them. If using just sand for your plants make sure to put root tabs in to help with nutrients! Haha I love Gizmo! Good fit for a puffer!
My betta is a bit spoiled.. But once I found out he was extremely docile.. He's now in a 20 gallon community tank with lots of plants. They love plants :) I feed him once a day during the week & twice a day on weekends usually because I'm home when the lights turn on. I feed him full spectrum...
Well I have never cycled a new tank this way.. Typically I would take old filter media from my established tank such as your community tank and stick it in the filter of my new tank.. Or even just place it in the water in front of the water flowing out of the filter to get that crap all mixed...
Haha I'm glad my thread started a good conversation about these little guys:) my
Two dwarfs seem to be very happy in the 10 gallon but they say 1 for every 5 gallons so I would stick to two in your 10! I do have two Otto cats in there as well, so we will see how that goes. I fed them frozen...
Well I ended up flipping some fish around in tanks & I went with two dwarfs in my planted 10 gallon:) I absolutely love them! He's a picture of one of the little guys :)
Hey everyone! I have a 20 gallon medium planted tank (eventually heavily planted) with 3 dwarf puffers. I'm currently running DIY CO2 with a dual T5 fixture with two 6500k bulbs.. Can I safely dose dry ferts with the puffers? I'm using PPS on my other planted tanks so I would want to do the...
The tank I'm using has actually been up for months with a pair of angels, four pandas and some rasboras.. But the angels outgrew this tank so I'm wanting to get something new into it. It's also planted.. Which only helps, so I'm thinking I could add all 3 at once at this point!
