If you have those fish for 10 years there's no question about you knowing what you're doing you must be doing a great job. Unfortunately those fish at 10 years old have lived a seriously good long life not to say it can't live longer but with the description of what you got going on it sounds...
Look up Sechem ParaGuard and if you can get it. It takes care of many things and is easy on fish, plants, and bacteria. Just a thought and I hope it. Helps.
GoldGuru gave great advice. If you want to speed up the bacteria growth I would recommend Aquavitro Seed by Seachem. It will help. Worked great many times for me and is easy to use.
