    Oh no! MERCURY?!

Relax. Most analog thermometers are alcohol nowadays (and have been for some time). If the liquid was red, it was alcohol, nothing to worry about. if it was silver in color it could be mercury but most likely is galinstan if it was made in the last ten years or so. if it was truly mercury...

    Brooktrout? Can it be done?

A couple of other things to note, you will need a lot of cooling capacity as they really thrive 55-60 degree (Fahrenheit) water. Also, heavy lids would be a must as they will jump whenever they see water entering the tank (they think there's a pool on the other side they need to get to).

NSFW ads at the top of the forum

if it was the banner ad under the header, those ads are often chosen based on other sites visited on the computer https://choice.microsoft.com/. if your the only one who uses that computer, it may have misinterpreted your history, in which case if you can opt out of personalized ads on the link...

    trout?

I don't know about the legal issues of keeping native fish in Washington (although generally if you can legally catch it you can keep it however you wish). whether they can survive and thrive will depend a lot on the species and the pond. To get a good answer you will need to know what...

Co2 system with 2L for planted tank

You probably have a leak between the cap and tubing (you can check this by closing the end of the tube, applying soapy water at the connection, and squeezing the bottle. If the soapy water bubbles, there is a leak). if this is the case, use a bulkhead fitting used for R/C planes (like this...

    aquaclear filter question

Are they actually floating or are they being pushed up by the sponge underneath it? If the sponge gets clogged with debris the water sometimes can push up the sponge, which in turn pushes up everything above it (in this case your ceramic rings).

    Shower, as a fish tank?

if you are really concerned about the water warming as you take a shower or the water hitting the glass stressing the fish, you could use double pane glass particularly on the inside walls/ It will provide insulation from both heat and vibration like a double pane window

    Python issues

Your problem is probably elevation. whats the difference in height between the water level in the problematic tanks and the sink adapter? also, is it problematic from the start or does it just get bad after removing a certain amount of water? Cliff your idea is helpful but not for that...

    Peppery smell?

have you used Melafix in your tank recently? It has a very noticeable peppery smell to it. if so, a water change should get rid of it very quickly. It could also be something else that has been put in the tank (medications, something a little kid put in the tank), in which case a water change...
