the reusing of bottle is harmful as long as you dont clean it out. Thats why people dont reccomend it is because they are lazy. (not saying you are). Also, if we cant re use the bottles, why recycle them? isnt it basically saying the same idea, throwing the bottles in recycling program...

couldnt you just do a pwc? wouldnt that clear up the mess and keep the levels rising from the dissolving amounts of food?

Opinion i heard is that the ugf is not good since it raises the nitrates. In fact i am going to most likely remove it when i change the bedding. jmo

I would try to do the starter first since it is only about a dollar in cost. Besides, when you have a household flourescent fixture with starters, they flicker becuase it cant start, but as soon as the starter is replaced, it starts quickly without flicker. It is up to you...
