    shrimp questions

When you say soft.....how soft? I fertilize my shrimp only tank also, but only about half the normal. I also do smaller more frequent water changes. It's a 10g and I change 20% twice a week.

    Black Neons

I have 8 of them. Have had them for over two years without a problem. I believe like Zags said you just got poor quality. I'd try again, but from a different LFS.

    new XP3...air in filter

I also believe you have a air lock problem. Rockin the filter a little more tonight should solve it. Stick the end of the hose into very hot water for a few seconds. Softens them up, and they slide right on.

Rena Canister Filter Users - how often to change the filters

In my XP2 I have, starting at the bottom. Course sponge, fine sponge, filter floss, ceramic rings. I change 30-50% water each week and if the return rate is weak from the spray bar at that time I replace the floss. Usually once every 4-8 weeks. You only need about a 1" layer. If you pack it to...

Rena Canister Filter Users - how often to change the filters

I use filter floss in mine, and replace it every month. I haven't replaced either set of sponges yet and it's been 15 months.

I guess I misunderstood your previous post. I though you were trying to prevent the green water episode.

    Inline Heater?

    I have a Hydor 301 on a 55G with a XP2 filter. It's been over a year now and I love it. I would purchase another in a second.

    Starting Over: Shrimp Tank

Personally, I can stir the crap out of my sand. Enough so you can't see the back of the tank, and one hour later it's clear as a whistle. I don't think your filter is filtering properly, or not turning enough water. The filter feeders aren't going to clean your water. I mean that's how they...

Sorry to say, those are not baby shrimp. I have a picture for you of one that was about 2 weeks old. Even at birth they look the same only much smaller.

    Stressed Bristlenose!?!?

I think you have already done the right thing, and that's making sure he had that cave to hide in. He'll eat if he gets hungry. Give him some more time.

    Green Water - Algae Bloom

I really don't know much about blackouts, but I would recommend 20% pwc twice a week, and a good gravel vac with each one. Also if you can put filter floss into that filter it will help. You will have to changed it out each week untill the algea is gone.

    Green Water - Algae Bloom

I believe you may have a filtering problem, more than a light problem. What filter is on the tank, and what is you normal PWC schedule?

New fish and parameter testing ?'s

Yes, Water changes Are you stocked, I believe you are. Overstocked, I believe you are. Bad mix, Neon tetras don't mix with Angels, or Tiger barbs. A common pleco will easily outgrow your 35 hex.

Whats a small active community fish

They are active. Add these to your list for consideration, Rummynose Tetras, and Cherry Barbs. They are a couple of my favorites.
