    Nitrate level way above 100ppm!

Yes, I will not be going back to that fish store. I live in a small town and it's the only fish store within 100 miles. I guess I'll have to go to Memphis to find one. The nitrate level is about 40 now so I'll try to keep doing the pwc's. This time I'll try doing them the right way.

    Nitrate level way above 100ppm!

Wow, you're coming down on me hard. I didn't turn it into a FW tank. I've done a few pwc's before and if the salinity was low, I fixed it. Of course my fish are still alive. The only fish that has died is my black and white saddleback. I don't claim to be an expert or even know what I"m...

    Nitrate level way above 100ppm!

No no....I have been doing 50% water changes (removing 50%, replacing 50%). I just haven't been adding salt to the water when I replace it. I've done 2 in the past 4 days.

    Nitrate level way above 100ppm!

The ammonia is fine. Nitrates are the only high thing. I just add dechlorinator when I add water. That's what the guy at the fish store told me to do. He said that the salt will stay in the bottom. Well, I checked the salinity of the water today and it was low. I took water out and added...

    Nitrate level way above 100ppm!

It is a saltwater test kit. No, I don't let the water sit overnight and when do I add salt? Do I add it each time I do a pwc? I used Instant Ocean.

    Nitrate level way above 100ppm!

Before the "crisis", I hadn't done a pwc in several months. I know, I was slacking. But, I checked the water in my tap and it read 0 ppm. I don't understand. Maybe I'll check the water in my freshwater tank and see what it reads. I didn't even think of that. I'll do that right now and see...

    Nitrate level way above 100ppm!

Ok.......now I'm really confused. I did another 50% water change last night and the nitrate level still hasn't changed. I don't know what's going on. I guess I may just have to take a water sample to the fish store to get it checked. I don't know why my test kit would be wrong. Update on...

    Nitrate level way above 100ppm!

So how do I know if the LR is cured? I'm going to do another pwc in a few minutes and see if that changes anything. It's still reading above 80 ppm as of now. I'll post the reading after I do the pwc. Thanks all of you for your help with this. If you can't tell, I'm new to saltwater...

    Nitrate level way above 100ppm!

My feather duster is coming out of his tube. Does that mean he's dying? I will get more LR. If I do get rid of the Bio-wheel, what do I replace it with?

    Nitrate level way above 100ppm!

I tested my tap water and it shows 0 ppm. I do have 15 lbs of live rock. How much more do I need? I have a Percula Clown, a Neon Velvet Damsel, 2 crabs, a feather duster, and lots of little pink and blue worms(haven't figured out yet what these are). I feed them Wardley Total Color Marine...

    Blue worm???

I found about 10 or so of these little pink worms today but I just spotted this big blue one. It has little spiky looking things on it. Does anyone know what these are???

    Nitrate level way above 100ppm!

Well, I did have 2 snails but I think they're dead. I noticed that this morning. I have 3 crabs.

    Nitrate level way above 100ppm!

Guess I need to look into a protein skimmer and some lighting. The guy at the place where I bought all of my equipment said that the filter I got along with the live rock would be sufficient....hmmmm....oh well.

    Nitrate level way above 100ppm!

I have the Emperor 280 Bio-Wheel Filter System. I've had the kit for about 5 months. I feed the fish once or twice daily. I use tap water. Well, I haven't actually checked it in a few months. I thought everything was ok until the clown died last week. The tank has been running for about 6...

    Nitrate level way above 100ppm!

So what would be ideal lighting for my tank? It is a 20 gallon. I also have a feather duster. Do they require such light? I've checked my nitrate level now several hours after the 50% water change. There doesn't seem to be much difference at all. What now??

    Nitrate level way above 100ppm!

Power-Glo high intensity 18,000K 15W OK OK........I've been reading and have realized that that is not even close to being enough light. What I don't understand is that the anemone was fine for several months. Now it's tiny. The pic is before. I don't have an after right now but it's tiny.
  19. I got this fish when it was about an inch long. It is now over 10 inches. This bad boy is gorgeous.

Thanks. I had a black and white clown to die last week. I also have a anemone that used to be about 4 to 5 inches tall and now it's about the size of a pea. I hope this will help it.

    Nitrate level way above 100ppm!

8O 8O I checked my nitrate level this morning on my 20 gallon saltwater tank and it was above 100 ppm. I did a 50% water change. How long will it be until I can check the level again and see results from the water change? Is is immediate? Ok, It has been several hours since I did the water...

    20 Gallon Saltwater Stock

I have had my 20 gallon saltwater tank going for about 6 weeks. I currently have a Percula Clown, a Clarkii Clown, a Black Saddleback Clown, and a Neon Velvet Damsel. Is my tank overstocked? :?:
