    Cycling..

Hello everyone, So I've been cycling my 180L for a couple of weeks now and it is at the stage where it can bring 4ppm of Ammonia to 0ppm over night. However, the Nitrites are sky high around 5ppm.. I've been told that these can take a while longer to produce bacteria for but I'm in need some...

    I screwed up!

Do a 50% water change and then keep the lights off for a couple days, I would also recommend fasting your fish for a couple of days too so that the water pollution is kept to a minimum!

    Molly

As already mentioned above, your stocking for the tank is bound to run into trouble soon.. I'm surprised it hasn't happened already. Keeping coldwater fish with tropical isn't ideal, lots of people are against it and goldfish produce A LOT of waste which fish like discus are very sensitive...

    28L Tank for betta fish

Hiya, I have a 28L tank which has my male betta in. 28L is not really big enough for multiple female bettas and you can't keep anymore than one male betta in a tank. This is an old picture of my set up (ignore the cloudiness) Although since then the plants have really grown nicely and made the...

    Tank starting advice

Grab a bucket, pour the substrate into it, add some warm water and start swirling it around. Pour out the murky water and keep adding fresh water then swirl again, repeat this until the water is clear. If using gravel you can use a colander or sieve to drain the water out, however if using sand...

    Tank starting advice

I set mine for 26 degrees Celsius not sure what that is in fahrenheit. Regarding plants - you can have as many as you want, do you know what kind of look you want to go for? Just make sure there are plenty of open spaces to swim as well as hiding spots too! Thickness of the substrate depends...

    Tank starting advice

I would say that a sand substrate would be best for Corys as I have heard of some instances of gravel being sharp and cutting off Corys barbels whilst they roam the bottom.. As mentioned above I would also recommend a planted tank! In my opinion the natural look is much more desirable :)

Setting up a 180 Litre, stocking, plants, cycling? Help!

Current situation. Going to get some more plants tomorrow to add more height in the back and to the right of the tank.. Not sure where else to go from here now, maybe add a Co2 system for the plants? Any suggestions for improvement are very much welcome :)

Setting up a 180 Litre, stocking, plants, cycling? Help!

Just two 30w fluorescent light tubes.. not too knowledgable about tank lighting. Also, nutrients yes, but don't know how to go about using Co2. Please feel free to advise me :)

Setting up a 180 Litre, stocking, plants, cycling? Help!

Thanks! I usually rush into tank set ups because I want to get on with the cycle but this time I'm enjoying taking my time! Hopefully the end result is good :)

Setting up a 180 Litre, stocking, plants, cycling? Help!

So today consisted of adding a background to the tank, laying down the plant soil base, washing 16kg of sand (which took way longer than anticipated! :ermm: ) and laying it all out in the tank. This is how I've decided to lay out the soil, concentrated on the back portion of the tank as I'm...

    New Tank is Cloudy

Well done on getting through it, I truly believe prime is a lifesaver (literally). I use it as my water conditioner with every water change, even though my tank has been fully cycled for a while. Until the cycle is complete I think you would need to do a water change once a day and then after...

Setting up a 180 Litre, stocking, plants, cycling? Help!

PH is generally quite high, usually around 7.4 - 7.8. GH in my area is hard. Not sure how to find out KH?

Setting up a 180 Litre, stocking, plants, cycling? Help!

Started to soak some of the wood in the bath today as one of the pieces is quite big. Also going to wash the sand later too! Can't wait for things to come together :)

    Betta care + Questions

As previously mentioned you should have an instant cycle by using some of the established filter media! You shouldn't take too much as you don't want to start a mini cycle in your already established tank, so maybe a quarter (if that) :) Betta's love moss balls so if you can get your hands on...

Best way to move an aquarium

Hey :) My first bit of advice would be to leave the tank until its the absolute last thing that you need to move (if possible) this will reduce the amount of time the fish have to be stressed and in transit. When moving my tank I drained the water so there was about a quarter left, putting...

Ahh I was thinking of giving it a go too! That's awesome, what kind of set up are you planning on?

New (old) tank, how to clean and set up?

Have you heard of the method using a gravel bag filled with gravel to create a basis for the hills? I was considering that but unsure how that would turn out! I picked up my sand and pieces of wood for the tank today and started another thread where I am going to post my progess :)

Used Aquarium - Buy or No

I don't see why not! You would have to clean it throughly anyway being that it was used. Vinegar and warm water will kill any bacteria that could still be in there :)

    Need some advice

What substrate do you have? Corydora's are great algae eaters but gravel can cut their barbels which is not good, I own otocinclus catfish which are also great algae eaters, they clean the glass more than anything though!
