    Pearl Gourami

I got some potentially clearer pictures that show the faded areas on her sides. Her fin seems to be getting a lot better and doesn’t seem to be ‘rotting’ as such anymore. I’ll try and get some antibacterial medication over the next few days. I’m not too concerned about the swelling because...

    Pearl Gourami

I’ll get on the weekly water changes then. The patches aren’t fuzzy, it looks like the scales have faded away and left these white areas, and they don’t seem to be sore or anything.

    Pearl Gourami

Here are some pictures from a few days ago. She’s still swimming fast enough that I can’t take good pictures of her.

    Pearl Gourami

Hi everyone, I have a group of 5 pearl gourami (2 male, 3 female) and one of my females has several areas on her body where it seems like the scales have disappeared and there are white areas left behind. These started off as small white spots over her body, but now she’s got quite large white...

    Female Pearl Gourami

Hi everyone, I’ve had a group of 6 Pearl Gourami (2 male, 4 female) for a few months and everything has been fine up to this point, aside from minor aggression. However I’ve just noticed one of my females acting strangely, she’s not swimming around with the rest of the group and isn’t really...

Aquarium not cycled after 2 months

I finally got the levels down to an amount I’m happy with, and I’ve finally got some fish! I’ve added a group of 10 Lambchop Rasbora who are doing great so far, now I’m wondering on how I should gradually stock it. The final stocking plan is 20 Lambchop Rasbora, around 10 Kuhli Loaches, around...

Aquarium not cycled after 2 months

Just tested the water from the tap, and nitrates are coming back as somewhere between 10 and 20ppm, which is roughly what it’s supposed to be according to my water supplier. I did another 20% water change, cleaned the filter sponges using the tank water I removed, and cleaned the sand as well...

Aquarium not cycled after 2 months

My crypts starting melting fairly recently so it could very well be plant particles. I’ll try cleaning the filter. I’ve not fertilised for a couple of days, so don’t think it would be that.

Aquarium not cycled after 2 months

No, wasn’t sure if I should as I didn’t want to damage any bacteria. Should I?

Aquarium not cycled after 2 months

Hello again, I was getting ready to add some fish this afternoon by performing a large water change (around 90%) to get rid of all remaining nitrates, but even after this huge water change my nitrate levels do not seem to have come down at all and are still around 80ppm. What’s happening? I’ve...

Hi again everyone, My ammonia has come down to 0ppm after 5 days, and nitrite is still at 0ppm. What do you think?

Aquarium not cycled after 2 months

My ammonia is reducing, but very slowly. According to my water suppliers website, the tap water ammonia levels are 0.014ppm and the nitrate levels are 13.96ppm. Test kit should be working fine, I’m using API Freshwater Master Test Kit. I had to buy some more ammonia tests (same brand) as I...

Aquarium not cycled after 2 months

Ammonia is around 4ppm (redosed it to around 4ppm 3 days ago after a water change). Nitrite is around 0ppm. Nitrate is very high, somewhere between 80ppm and 160ppm. pH is around 8.4. The last time I performed a water change was 3 days ago, and I have been doing it every week or so since this...

Aquarium not cycled after 2 months

Well it’s been a little over a month since I made this post, and my tank still doesn’t even seem to be nearly cycled. Ammonia is still taking ages to come down. Any more help?

Aquarium not cycled after 2 months

A couple weeks ago, I was under the impression you weren’t supposed to do water changes unless nitrites spike. I’m guessing that’s wrong?

Aquarium not cycled after 2 months

Hello, I've been fishlessly cycling my planted 200l/55g aquarium since the start of June using ammonia. Within the first few weeks my ammonia levels were starting to drop off and I was beginning to see nitrites and nitrates, and apart from a brief period when my nitrites stopped reducing...

    Cycling Help - Nitrite Disappeared?

Quick update, nitrites are back (again) but are now really high, yet the ammonia doesn’t seem to be decreasing very quickly at all. Could anyone please offer any advice on what’s going wrong? The tank has been cycling for nearly 8 weeks and it doesn’t even seem to be close to finishing.

    Cycling Help - Nitrite Disappeared?

Hello everyone, I’ve been fishless cycling my 200l/55 gallon aquarium with pure ammonia for around 5 weeks. I started off by dosing ammonia to 4ppm, testing it occasionally and redosing whenever ammonia fell below 0.5ppm back up to 4ppm. Within 2 weeks I’d started getting nitrite, with this...
