The "normal" color of CAEs is not albino, actually. The dominant gene coloration is brown with dark brown squarish spots along the lateral line. I would think that the sand would pass right back out, but I'm not sure. It depends on the size of your pleco. If it's a large species they will make such a mess of the sand it's probably not worth the trouble.

jbarr, if you are talking about itafx's native fish that s/he posted for an ID, then they are Gambusia affinis, a wild-type livebearer. They are native to North and Central America. Chances are good that you can find them in most places, as they are hardy and introduced in many places to control...

That's a good point. Before sending it I do plan to double check the species being offered and do some research about their respective lifespans underwater.

Very ingenious. A lot of people strain the cooked egg yolk through mesh or fabric to ensure it's small enough for the fry. An apple snail would have cleaned up the large flakes, btw. :)
