    Java Moss (Some Snail Free!)

I have enough Java Moss to split up into 2 shipments. One I can guarantee is snail-free, the other is not. Let me know if you have a preference, or you can take both. We can trade if you have something to offer, or you just pay shipping. PM me.

    worst accident you've had

I had my DIY CO2 system siphon water out of the tank overnight... twice. On my third attempt, the CO2 mix actually went into the tank and killed my fish. I gave up on the DIY. Also, there was a point where duckweed was just about the only plant I could keep alive, so I bought a bunch of it. It...

    Galaxy Rasbora/Microrasbora, named/described.

They do look an awful lot like danios, once it's pointed out. Very cool.

My Fish May Be Coming Home!!!

It was very nice of them to get you a tank. And a 46 at that! Good luck, hopefully it works out.

I've had enough of the tube plants!

I've had enough of the tube plants! Update! Today I went and spoke with the aquatics dept manager. They've expanded the selection since I'd last seen it. They do in fact have java fern now, so my apologies to hulkamaniac. Also, they have emersed wisteria. There are a larger range of sizes...

    Galaxy Rasboras a threatened species

While a few private breeders are not going to be able to keep up with the demand for them, I think it's important that there are documented early breeding experiences. It might help commercial breeders get something going, and it can give us some info that could help with conservation...

    Animal Planet Fish Food

In addition to fish food, cat and dog foods whose first ingredient is wheat or corn meal should be avoided as well. First ingredient should always be meat, preferably not beef. Premium foods are live, then comes frozen, then freeze dried. Staple foods are pretty low on the list. Of the staple...

    Animal Planet Fish Food

Woo! I win! I'd go with TetraMin, personally. I don't think the AP is worth switching brands over if you're happy with what you've got.

    Animal Planet Fish Food

I know Kaytee brand recently started adding the Animal Planet logo all over it. They've done it for small animal and bird foods. I feed it to my guinea pigs and it's the same stuff it's always been. I bet the AP fish food is a brand owned by Kaytee. So it's not actually manufactured by Animal...

    Plecos with sand substrate?

Most plecos can hold their own with cichlids, as long as you don't go with a dwarf species or like a zebra or something. :)

Albino Chinese Algae Eater question & fish ID

The "normal" color of CAEs is not albino, actually. The dominant gene coloration is brown with dark brown squarish spots along the lateral line. Your fish's behavior issue has nothing to do with the coloration. As they get older and bigger (and they do get pretty big) they become more aggressive...

    Water Changes with Fry?

Faucet water should be fine as long as it's treated with a conditioner.

    Galaxy Rasbora Journal!

These little guys are becoming threatened due to overcollection. I regret that I ordered 8 of the tiny things, but I did so with the intent of breeding them. They should arrive on Tuesday. $65 for th fish, plus $40 for the shipping. Ouch. Tonight I set up an old 10g. There's not a lot of info...

    Galaxy Rasboras a threatened species

The more I think about it, the more I want to get involved. Yes, please keep us updated. I can't find them on Aquabid and I know my LFS does not have them. I have found them at ThatPetPlace.com and Azgardens.com, but I have heard mixed reviews about both. I'm leaning towards ThatPetPlace.

I've had enough of the tube plants!

Hmm. All the Petsmarts in my area have removed the plant tanks, but I'm happy to hear that's not everywhere. I wonder if this is up to the individual store then? If so, I definitely need to be addressing the manager as well. I know the non-aquatic issue is a universal problem. However, the tube...

    Plecos with sand substrate?

I would think that the sand would pass right back out, but I'm not sure. It depends on the size of your pleco. If it's a large species they will make such a mess of the sand it's probably not worth the trouble.

    New Fauna

jbarr, if you are talking about itafx's native fish that s/he posted for an ID, then they are Gambusia affinis, a wild-type livebearer. They are native to North and Central America. Chances are good that you can find them in most places, as they are hardy and introduced in many places to control...

I've had enough of the tube plants!

That's a good point. Before sending it I do plan to double check the species being offered and do some research about their respective lifespans underwater.

    Making Fry Food

Very ingenious. A lot of people strain the cooked egg yolk through mesh or fabric to ensure it's small enough for the fry. An apple snail would have cleaned up the large flakes, btw. :)

    New Fauna

Regen - good for you! Go do it right. :) itafx - I don't know a whole lot about the disease issue but I think perhaps it is possible that wild fish can carry diseases or parasites that are outside of the common illnesses seen in the tropical farmrasied fish. I would QT for longer than ususal if...

First batch of Reef Crystals on the way

Glad to hear the cyano is gone, Scoot! I'm a little dismayed about the hair algae though. After reading this thread a while back I bought RC hoping to get rid of my hair algae, but apparently I can't count on it. :(
