I need info and advice in these subject of water quality geared for the absolute beginner. I have a another tank thats almost finished cycleing, 30 gal, now have 3 angel fish in it and some f. guppies(4) and have read some about the more delicate angels needing diff parameters than my tap tends...

I have lots of fish in this tank, some were added way into the original cycle ( my ignorance) thus making this process on my very first ever aquarium take way longer than need be.

I think it is done !!!!! Hip Hip Hooray It has been over 48 hrs. since my last water change and the test results were 0 NO2 and 10ppm NO3 and 0 ammonia. I'm going on vacation now. :lol: 8O :lol:

I see, thanks for the info. I tested my tank with the hydrometer and it reads about 1.002 but my tap water has that same reading also.

I got one of those hydrometers and was wondering what reading I should see if putting 1 tbsp of salt per 5 gal of water like when we treat for ICH ???

The nitrite readings have been falling for a couple of days and its been 2 days since last water change and it still only tests at 0.50 with Nitrate up to 20ppm. Does this mean its almost done ?? Should I be seeing that light at the end of the tunnel ?

I am a Noobee but got all my info from research on this site and another which led towards the RENA filters I use and the HYDOR in-line heaters. The 300 watt Hydor on my 30 gal hex and on the 55 gal rect. tank. On the 55 the temp never deviates 0.6 degrees and on the 30 gal even less.

That ammonia level is less than 0.25 ( < 0.25 ), for the last couple of weeks it has stayed very low and sometimes zero , and the NO2 doesn't get as high now for 3-4 days, after the fish deaths that AM I tested at 10 PM and got those readings ( amm less than 0.25 and NO2 at 0.25 ). That ammonia...

Just tested as follows---- Ammonia < 0.25 , Nitrite NO2 0.25 , PH = 7.6 I dont know about the exact water temp when I did it, just remmember the digital read out going up some, it must of been about usuall because I didn't give it any concern.

The temp difference is usually only 2 degrees and my tap water PH readings run between 7.2 and 7.6, one time 7.8. All other fish are doing fine all day long.

I will keep a close eye on the Nitrite . Thanks to you all.

3 tiger barbs and my rainbow shark . Used my Python, sucked out about 75% of the water (as usuall) and while the new water was going in those fish started acting funny and within 3-4 minutes, tank is full and fish are dead. I treat the water little by little as it is refilling via the Python...

There are fewer fish in the new tank , that would be a decreased bio load correct? Will that cause the cycle to last longer or finish quicker? Yes, filter from partially cycled tank onto new tank. It was 5-10ppm Nitrate( NO3 ) and NO2 levels get up to 2.0 and higher.

Still have high Nitrite levels with 5-10 ppm Nitrate, still doing several water changes a day to lower Nitrite. Seems that its getting close to being completed.

I have a new tiger barb, he has all the normal 4 stripes but on his right side below the dorsal fin between the 2nd and 3rd stripes he has a large black spot, same color as his stripes. Is that a sign of deformity or something else that should cause me to not want this fish in my heard ????

Already down to a reading of 0 ammonia, have 5-10 NO3. I dont think I could handle a case of "worse than it is now" that might be a breaking point. Hopefully someone with first hand experiance with these Nitra-Zorb pouches will give some info.
