Are these fishes suitable for a new (unmatured) tank?

My first three fish were a powder-blue tang, a yellow tang, and a banner butterfly. All three of them have been excellent fish that I've had no problems with (except for the banner butterfly's banner breaking in half. but it grew back in a couple of weeks). One problem that I could forsee...

    Yellow Tang coral nibbler?

Are you sure he was actually nibbling at the coral or something on the coral? The reason I ask is because I've seen both of my tangs apparently nibbling at one of my corals, but then when I looked closer, they were just eating some pellets that had gotten stuck on him. My tangs don't even like...

    dwarf angel compatibility

Along with my Flame Angel, I also had a Coral Beauty at the same time. I had to return the Coral Beauty to my LFS because I caught him nipping at my Bubble coral multiple times. My Flame Angel and the Coral Beauty never faught with each other, however my Powder-Blue Tang was pretty rough with...

Please help, want to add a yellow and a blue tang...

From what I understand, you should introduce tangs at the same time so they are not aggressive toward each other. My yellow tang is definitely my most aggressive fish. When I introduced my B/W Heniochus, the yellow tang started hitting it with the sharp spike by his caudal fin and continued...

    Anemone or not?

Tthanks for the advice. I'll definitely wait until the tank is more mature before considering one.

    Managing Mushrooms

If you can move the rock, I would suggest placing the rock in strong light. Most of my mushrooms have detached from their small piece of LR, when I placed it up in the top of the tank, and moved down onto the substrate.

    Tank contamination through hands

Sorry if this subject has already been discussed (I searched but found nothing), I was reading another thread and someone mentioned contaminating their entire tank because they didn't wash their hands. I've always been wary of washing my hands with soap before putting them in my tank because I...

    Anemone or not?

My 95 gal tank has been up for about 3.5 months now and I've been contemplating the idea of an anemone. I currently have 8 fish and 8 corals (see myinfo for details). I've noticed my larger O. Clown trying to play/host in both my frogspawn and wall hammer corals -- however, the corals don't...

My tang has issues...or a crab fetish....perhaps both

When I first got my cleaner shrimp, they would try and stay attached to my Yellow Tang when she would swim away. They would hang on for a few seconds and then let go and swim back to their "home" in the tank. I'd say it seems pretty normal -- the shrimp want to eat and the fish want to get rid...

    glass anenome, what eats them?

I have a Powder-Blue Tang and a Yellow Tang. The yellow was a little rough with the Heniochus at first, but now they're perfectly fine and the powder-blue couldn't care less about him. As far as the corals go, drsfostersmith.com labels the Heniochus as non reef safe and the Copperband as reef...

    glass anenome, what eats them?

Many butterflies will eat aptasia. Although my Henichous didn't seem to care for them, my next fish will be a Copperband Butterfly which is supposed to love aptasia. I also used Joe's Juice and it killed 2 aptasia within 5 minutes.

    Photocycle times?

I am fairly new to SW and reef tanks and was wondering about lighting cycle times. Currently, I have my MH on from noon until 8pm and my flourescents on from 11am until 9pm. Does this seem okay? I've read a few posts where people are only keeping their MH on for a few hours. TIA.

Question about potentially sick toadstool coral

I've had my toadstool coral in my 95 gal tank for about 3 weeks now and it doesn't seem to be doing so well. When I first put it in the tank, it expanded and moved up towards the light. However, I've noticed within the past week it hasn't been expanding or responding to the photo cycle. In...

Tank is finally going strong! (Pics)

From what I've read, the Heniochus diphreutes (Longfin Bannerfish) is actually reef safe. It is the very similar Heniochus acuminatus that is not reef safe. I checked with my LFS and he was sure that this fish is the Heniochus diphreutes. As far as the flame angel, I have been watching him...

Tank is finally going strong! (Pics)

Just thought I'd give an update on my 95 gal tank in case anyone is interested. I just did my first PWC today and the tank looks great. Currently I have a Powder-Blue Tang, a Yellow Tang, two Ocellaris Clownfish, a Flame Angel, a Longfin Bannerfish, a Bubble Coral, and about 20 or so snails...

Methods of doing a partial water change

I just did my first PWC today (10 gal) and I was trying to figure out a method to make it a little easier. Right now, I have two 5 gal buckets that I mixed the water in the night before. Then today I took a small submersible pump drained 5 gal from the sump into another 5 gal bucket and dumped...

New member and new Oceanic Wave 95 gal reef tank

Hi everyone! This is my first aquarium setup. It's an Oceanic 95 gallon tank with an Aqua Medic HQI+T5 combination light. Right now I've got a Powder Blue Tang and a Yellow Tang in the tank but I'll be adding more in about a week. Here is my tank so far with just the live rock and tangs.
