Am I right or Petco -- Salt discussion

They CAN LIVE without salt. It has come to my conclusion (not true probably) that the "salt requirement" is a method to earn money in a "decent" reason for why to use it. You probably have more experience than the pet store. I don't use salt in my tank, especially with the fact that it has...

    Rena 400 Air Pump Problems

I would use a Whisper air pump. More reliable, even my super old one that looked like a gray box with a black base. (oh, and that old airpump was tossed, it died in a storm.)

    disater strokes agian!!!!

A prefilter on the intake (foam, sponge, empty media bag, etc) will help with that. As for the ammonia spike, that's the betta death. I never had that tank before, but sorry for the loss.

    Coralife 2x 65 Sattelite fixture

Coralife does not make Satellite fixtures, CURRENT does. If you have a Coralife Aqualight, call Coralife. I did that when one of the fans came malfunctioning on my 260W fixture.

    250w heater in 10g?

I would stick with a 50. They heat the water slowly and gradually--this I think, is to prevent too much stress on the fish.

    AC 20 filter quit

If it is cleaned, but still does not run, make sure water is filled up in the filter, then move the intake tube to the lowest flow. Take an unfolded paperclip and try moving the impeller. It may just be "stuck". If it starts spinning again, just set the flow back to full.

starting the sypon on a corner-flo?

Raise the water level to the overflow so water can go down to the sump if you have one. Be sure to top off water regularly so that the overflow won't stop.

    2.5 gallon cleaning gravel...

You can get small 1" gravel vacuums at many places. Just cut the 1" pipe short about halfway and it should be easier to use.

    setting up empty 10 gal

Toss the undergravel filter. Get a power filter. I recommend the Hagen AquaClear 20 or 30. You might want to stick with the 20 if you go with sand.

    Surface filter?

I recommend using a new toothbrush, who knows if your room mate has disgusting stuff in his/her/its teeth or does not rinse the toothpaste out very well.
