Does my cory have a skin condition?

Hi guys! This morning I noticed that one of my 8 corys has a whitish area on the upper part of his tailfin that I don't think was there before. I can't exactly tell if it's fuzzy looking like fungus or some sort of skin condition but I'll post a picture. Does anybody know what this is on his...

I have a completely awesome idea!

Yeah I actually did come to the conclusion of two separate tanks touching each other on a strong sturdy table rather than a fused divided tank so the fish can still see each other. It would certainly be really cool but you're right, the maintenance would be crazy and I never did consider the...

I have a completely awesome idea!

I'm not sure if this is the section to make this post in but there's an idea for an aquarium design I've had for a few years now. I don't know if such a thing already exists so it would probably have to be custom designed or commissioned or maybe suggested to an aquarium company. In any case I...

Is my new blood parrot behaving normally?

Thanks Libertybelle! The water quality is perfectly fine and as it turns out he's just incredibly shy and was just scared for a few days. Now I've gotten him to eat and he's met some other fish and is showing signs of curiosity and sociability.

Is my new blood parrot behaving normally?

Hi guys! I just got a blood parrot cichlid yesterday and I'm quarantining him for two weeks before I put him in the main tank. The quarantine tank is completely cycled and safe I made absolutely sure and the fish didn't show any obvious health issues or injuries at the store that I noticed...

I hope I didn't just hurt my new corydoras

Thanks Charliebankston! I have been hearing some good things about shrimp and brine shrimp nets! I think I'll get one now! They look great!

I hope I didn't just hurt my new corydoras

False alarm guys! He's fine! He's swimming around with the others as of this morning! I know as far as tiny fish are concerned corys are pretty tough. Still, if they're prone to getting stuck in the net I'll probably have to somehow find a better untangling solution to reduce the risk of this...

I hope I didn't just hurt my new corydoras

Hi guys! So my new aquarium finally cycled and I moved my betta, snail and corydoras into it a couple days ago. Today I went out and got three new corys to start out with as companions for my current one who has been alone since his previous companion passed away a few months ago. Anyway I was...

    Temporary slightly brackish water?

Excellent! Thanks Charliebankston! In that case I'll just make sure to change as much of the water as possible and fill it up a little more! I totally forgot that people sometimes use marine salt for treatment so it make sense a little bit would be harmless!

    Is this algae?

Awesome! Thanks Aiken Drum! It certainly did look more like some kind of frond than a clump of algae. I'll let it grow! I was hoping the plants would begin to multiply!

    Temporary slightly brackish water?

Hi there guys! My aquarium cycling is going well and pretty soon I imagine it will be time to start introducing the first fish. I have a list of fish and invertebrates I want to add to the tank and among them, potentially the first additions because apparently they might end up living the...

    Is this algae?

How's it going everybody? This is one of currently four Java fern plants in my aquarium and for the past couple of days I've noticed it has a cluster of something hanging off of some of the leaves. I just want to make sure this isn't Algae so I can trim the leaf off if it is or is it part of the...

    Cycling fungus and water changes?

Thanks Delapool! I did end up removing the meat! I asked the same question more or less on another forum I'm a member of and they were definitely talking about harmful pollutants. It also turns out the white stuff on the bulbs is just harmless biofilm. I'm glad I can add the bacteria now! That...

    Cycling fungus and water changes?

Thanks Fishwonder! That did help! I didn't see anything about the potential fungus so I guess it's probably nothing to worry about. I learned a lot about water changes and am happy to know I don't need to do them yet. I'll wait until the nitrates appear.

    Cycling fungus and water changes?

Hi guys! I'm currently cycling my new big 90 gallon and also a standard 20 gallon I'm going to use for temporarily quarantining new fish and as a hospital tank if it comes to that. I'm going to be careful not to speak too soon but the good news is that the cycling seems to be going...

How do these plants do in sand?

Good! In that case I'll just save it in case I ever need it! I think the filter should work just fine without it! Sounds like more trouble than it's worth when you don't need it!

How do these plants do in sand?

Great to know! Thanks Aiken Drum! The carbon just came with the filter, it's a Fluval 407 canister filter. I've been debating whether or not to actually use it. I just don't know if taking it out and not replacing it with some other medium would effect the performance. I don't want to risk...

How do these plants do in sand?

Excellent! Thanks Fishingtrees! A lot of my research definitely did mention root tabs but I wasn't sure 100%. I will be sure to get some now! I even heard something about the Flourish Brand being able to withstand filter carbon.

How do these plants do in sand?

Hiya guys! Soon I will be able to start setting up my new tank and adding plants. I have drawn up a plan for the types of plants I want to add to the tank and I've done some research. I'm going to be using sand for substrate, either black diamond blasting sand or some kind of darker colored play...

    Cool fact I learned

Right?! And if you live in certain parts of the country, bears! I absolutely love dwarf shrimp! Especially the blue tiger ones! They are on my list for what I want to put in my big tank once its' ready! :)

    Cool fact I learned

For sure! I particularly like the unagi eel sushi! And yeah keeping and breeding your koi in a typical pond around here, it would be beautiful for a while but I'm pretty sure the herons and raccoons and snapping turtles would thin them down very quickly.

    Cool fact I learned

I know right!? I'd love to visit Japan someday. So much tradition and all of it such a refined artform! I love the gardens that koi ponds are often the centerpiece of!

    Cool fact I learned

Sadly I don't have nearly enough space or the resources to build a pond but I really appreciate their beauty nonetheless. I remember reading something very neat recently. You guys no doubt know way more about this than I do and whether or not it's completely accurate but I still love this bit of...

    A few questions regarding preparation

Fantastic! Thanks Autumnsky! This really helped a lot! I was having problems seeing the post for a little while so I wasn't able to check on it and I did end up getting Finnex light and the Fluval 07 in the end but I still have yet to get the heaters. I really like the two heater idea adding up...
