I give in. I am buying RO unit I have questions.

It doesnt need to be that complicated. Just run the waste water line into the open lid of the washer. Once you are done filling your bucket, your washer will have a good amount of water in it. add clothes, turn on, and the washer will fill the rest of the way with water in the normal fashion...

    2x Eheim 2217's, fluval 404

I have 2 Eheim 2217's to get rid of. They filtered my 55 gallon tank for about 8 months. One has a Hydor ETH300 heater plumbed in the intake line. I also have a fluval 404 that came with a 75 gal I just bought. $75 shipped for the 2217 without heater $100 shipped for the 2217 with ETH300...

    livesand storing

I am setting up a new tank, and was painting the background tomorrow - planning to move the tank upstairs and add water this week. My plans were kicked into high gear tonight when someone said they had 100lbs of livesand for me, already pulled and in a few buckets I want to keep the livesand...

    sand question

I searched, but didnt find this. I cant find aragonite sand here for under 20 bucks a bag. Would it provide the same buffering if I added CC to my sump and used silica based sand in the tank? I have 75LBS of CC in my freshwater tank that I plan to break down this weekend.

    It finally happened

I thought I was living proof that plecos and demasoni can live together. For the past 6 months Ive had around 20 demasoni, 6 yellow labs, and 2 plecos (one rubberlip, one red devil) in a 55 gallon tank. I also had 2 lake tanganyika cichlids that I inherited living in there. last month I...

    Open top stands

If you are still concerned, add some egg crate to your tank before adding the substrate. It will help disperse the weight evenly across the bottom. I think youll be fine

    Plants for trade

I just received plants in Ohio from who knows where - and had no trouble. They arrived fine and took almost 3 days to arrive. They were COLD in the box, but planted well and are flourishing in my tank. Just pack them well, and dont let them sit outside. I had them shipped to my office so I...

    Fish mystery!

Mystery solved. found under the recliner. Easily 15 feet from the tank. the space he must have come out of is only 1.5", but the lenght of the tank. if he came out the back he moved under the stand, out the front, across the room, and under the recliner. unless one of our cats graciously...

    Fish mystery!

If he did get out of the tank, do you think the cats would eat him entirely or just mess with him until he was dead? Thanks again!

    Green Water Algae

ok, here goes. I have absolutely no idea what happened while I was gone, but here is my timeline: Left on Monday for florida. gave my wife a fert dosing schedule and a feeding schedule. This is the tank when I left: looking pretty rough, hence the posts in this thread earlier this week...

    Green Water Algae

Im sure it will be interesting! based on what I see when I get home, ill probably get the filter. I dont imagine there is fish death, i keep a pretty close count. The only thing I cant keep track of is the 10 zebra danios. I can only ever count 7-8 at once. they move quickly...

    Green Water Algae

am fighting this myself right now. Today I did a major water change (50%+) and it was crystal clear for a few hours, getting worse towards the end of the night. I just started dosing dry ferts so I partially blame that. My plants are growing like weeds however and the fish dont seem to mind...

    aquaclear 110

I have a 110 on my 29 Gallon and the output is not too much. I did add a prefilter (foam on the intake tube) so my neons wouldnt dissapear!

plants are very healthy, but not spreading or growing

From what I can see, the advice here is perfect. 1. Raise the water level. Your output from the HOB filters is creating too much surface agitation which is outgassing your CO2, thus wasting it, and you work hard for it (DIY) 2. Putting the CO2 tube in the tank the way you have is about the...

    Water for mixing ferts

The smaller size (16 oz) of the ziploc twist lock container (pictured above) holds 1lb of dry ferts perfectly... I have this exact setup, maxwell/dapellegrini, you are not original at all :) finding mini teaspoons was my real challenge, but linens and things came through for me

hook me up with a EI recipe?

    40-60 Gallon Aquariums +/- 1/2 tsp KN03 3x a week +/- 1/8 tsp KH2P04 3x a week +/- 1/8 tsp K2S04 3x a week +/- 1/8 (10ml) Trace Elements 3x a week 50% weekly water change CO2, most shoot for 30ppm. consistency is as important as value, if not more.

    Thank you! With a pic

Thanks, Travis. I dont think I am quite there yet with the africans and plants. Maybe once I master them individually, i can try sticking them together again! :) the demasoni is definately my favorite species, so much spunk!!
