    Plywood Aquarium

I thought he was going to put the glass on the inside of the tank, and that way maybe water pressure would also push it tight against the wood. Boy was that nice. That rock really boggles my mind.

Best aquatic pet for office cube?

These two I think are the best I've come across in my search: http://www.marineland.com/products/consumer/con_explorer.asp 2 Gallon By the way, the 5g Hex is big-time on sale from petco.com...

Trying to start first ever tank

Yeah my fishless cycle was 36 days. Well worth the wait. Bio-Spira works for some, and not for others. You can use Bio-Spira if you have an ammonia or food source, such as the ACE Janitorial Strength, so you don't add fish if you have ammonia coming from elsewhere. (Especially don't add fish if...

Nitrate.... Whats good and what is bad?

I seriously think this is why people earmark the 20ppm. Because red looks like red, looks like red, looks like RED! *lol* At least 10ppm is orangish. After that... to be honest, I have no idea which red. It's so close, it's nearly impossible. All I know, is if it's at all red, I do a water...

    Cycling using fish food

I just don't know how people can handle this method. I didn't try the shrimp because I found the ACE hardware stuff, and it's clear and simple and easy and clean. But WHEW... using the fish food was the messiest smelliest attempt I made. I gave up after a week and I never had a big enough show...

tank not cycling after 3 mos.

I don't think fish would be acting normal at all, with prolonged levels like that... It seems interesting that there's no NitrAtes after so many months as well. Does sounds like a "fishy" (AHAHA) test kit problem?

Where do most people buy their tank stands?

I got mine at Petsmart. I wanted it to look nice, and I was pleasantly surprised with the appearance/cost of these...

NTD? Columnaris? Fungus? NEW CLEARER Pics

I didn't think about cleaning off the glass before the photos, but the ones I've presented here I know the white patches are from the fish, and not from the glass. Gosh, seeing them this close up, I didn't realize how really raggedy they really look. Today is the last day on Maracyn II...

Ever sucked a fish up while doing a water change?

I nabbed a Neon for the first time the day before yesterday. They were doing so well staying on the opposite side of the tank, I guess maybe they all crammed into the clay pot and felt they couldn't flee. Either that, or they couldn't be bothered to move. I looked and thought 'wow not as afraid...

    Illness Treatment, Diagnosis assistance required...

Well looks like my fears about the Ich are unconfirmed, and since the tank has been treated with salt for 14 days, and Copper Safe for 10, it's almost safe to say it can't have survived. But that does still leave me with a fungus or bacterial problem. (Unfortunately today was the worst of...

    Illness Treatment, Diagnosis assistance required...

My water parameters are always good, of course, as I mentioned above. (In fact, I left out that my pH is 7.0.) Even during the antibiotics I don't appear to have lost any nitrification. I have to admit, I would like to hear if anyone else had success treating Columnaris with heat - several...

    Illness Treatment, Diagnosis assistance required...

Yes, almost all of them have signs of the white patches, either being bacteria or fungus. (No real cottony-moldy looking appearance manifested itself like the photos I've seen, so I was leaning more towards Bacterial.)

    Illness Treatment, Diagnosis assistance required...

Diary of sadness: Any ideas, any help, any thoughts, any comments, greatly greatly desired... My fish have now been sick for 4 straight weeks, out of 5. Parameters: 80-81 degrees, no other variance, not even during water changes Ammonia - never moves from Safe, none present NitrItes 0 NitrAtes...

    Cycling without seeding?

36 Days. Not as great as 14... but I'll take it! (As opposed to fishy cycling.)

    Great $8.00 tool

You can call it "cheap" or whatever, but my husband bought one of them five years ago for our old planted tank. I still have it. It banged around for years as we moved from place to place. It's still in great condition - although I don't have any live plants to trim.

    Fishless Cycle Nitrite Levels

That's true, but I know I didn't overdose ammonia. At some points, I ceased adding any for days, and it never changed. For the last 2-3 weeks I dripped just itsy amounts in the tank. The only time it ever went down, was when I did those big water changes. Oh, and of course, when it finally...

    Fishless Cycle Nitrite Levels

Here's one thing I had for my off the scale NitrIte colors... a dilution test of NINE parts of tap water (untreated), to ONE part of tank water... will give you a 1/10th number. Mine used to be a peppermint green, way off the scale. When I did this test, it would give me a 2.0 to 2.5 ppm...

    Fishless Cycle Ammonia Question

I used the ACE Brand. (The touch-silkiness test needs to be done on just washed/rinsed glass containers, with clean hands too. So I wouldn't sweat it.)

    Bubbles on water surface

I had planned to do a week long test. I would say if they thrive for a week, you've done all you can. You could go longer if you want, but I would think 7 days is a good indication, if you're up on the fishless cycling/water changes.

    Bubbles on water surface

Yeah it's done... like 4-5 weeks ago. I still obsessed about it while it was happening. Next time I'll add maybe 3 or 4 more commas, to assist, in comprehending, my cryptographic posts.

    Bubbles on water surface

I wonder if we are related somehow. Maybe a past life. The biggest lesson I've learned in the past 3 weeks since I've had my fish, (and lost one), and obsessing about soap and cycling... was when I left for a vacation for a whole week. *lol* And boy did they thrive. O.O I've learned my lesson.

    Bubbles on water surface

Some types of dechlorinators can bubble if you add more than you need to. (But it's harmless.) How are the little explorers handling the bubbles?

    Soap contamination question

Give them the best shot, and don't underestimate the little guys. I've learned in the past hard 3 weeks sometimes they can surprise us, if you try and do the best you can for them.

    Soap contamination question

Also see if you can get some Bio-Spira. Maybe it'll help. Don't feel bad - I got TONS of pressure from everyone as well. (Except DH.) If I was younger, I'm sure my dad would have plunked fish in there as well. Just keep up with the testing and water changes, and make sure you know the...

    Soap contamination question

I still think it's a tricky "test" to use a plastic tupperware container to test for soap... it's possible it had soap residue from the last time it was washed? Or even if it's bought new from the store. Is there any way you can run a similar test using glass containers? I got your PM, and I...
