Here's a short 3.5min video clip I took shortly after a water change and plant trimming. Enjoy! :) My 240g planted discus tank. 4/25/14 - YouTube

    Goodbye 125g, Helloooo 240g

Setup took the better part of a whole day. After it was all delivered and put in place, I waited until the next day to transfer everything over from the old 125g. I seeded the sump with all the media from the fluval FX5's that were on the old tank. Started at like 6am, and finished around...

Don't think there is such a thing as a cheap new 240g. If you're lucky, you can probably find a nice used setup on Craigslist for a fraction of what you would pay new.

Not sure which one you are referring to, so I included a closer grouped shot. :) If you mean the deep red one (kinda facing the camera on the right), that's a San Merah. The brigher orange ones(two on the bottom of the shot), with the slight white spots are Rafflesias.

Updated shot after a recent water change. Tank has been up and running about 8 weeks now. Plant growth is exploding. Have had to hack em back several times now. =)

    Goodbye 125g, Helloooo 240g

Oh jeez. Well, just 24hours later, and I've already found my first passenger to ride the overflow waterfall slide. Was doing a quick eyeball of things and was rooting around in the sump, when I saw him swimming around the center chamber. Which means he had to go through the overflow, down...

A guy at work has dibs on it lol. He's getting a great deal; no charge if he hauls it away.

Here's a link to a short video clip I took shortly after setup. Water is still a little cloudy. Watch in HD for better quality. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10203622799914755&l=457232914962445286 Hope the link works! :)

    Goodbye 125g, Helloooo 240g

Finally got the 240g up and running yesterday. All plants and fish moved over from my old 125g setup. Took the whole day! I'm loving the new driftwood, each piece is almost 4 feet long! Tank stats: 8ftx2ftx2ft = 240gallons Filtration: 60gallon wet/dry sump CO2 injection EI dosing with dry...

    My 125g planted discus tank

In the 125 I used the substrate that Aquariumplants.com sells. It seemed to do okay. No real complaints other than that it was kinda light, and tough to keep new plants rooted. The 240g upgrade that I'm having built, I'm going to use Eco-complete. I already have it all on hand, ready to go.

    My 125g planted discus tank

I ordered 125 cardinals, but that was about a year or so ago. Have had a few losses here and there (none to a discus that I'm aware of), so there's probably still about 100 or so. =)

    My 125g planted discus tank

Thanks so much for the nice comments. :) I admit, I will miss this setup, but am really looking forward to the 240g when it gets in. That should be in another week or two at most. My buddies are looking forward to getting into their new home! As requested, a few more pics:

    My planted 125g Discus tank

IMO the best website for discus info by far is simplydiscus.com Their forums are an excellent resource for discus info, from breeding, to disease treatment, and they have great sponsors for ordering quality stock. :p As far as breeding discus as a side business, many of their sponsors are...

    My planted 125g Discus tank

Now that I'm not sure of, as I am not trying to breed them due to not having the tank room. Actually, that's not totally true, I DO have a spare 40G hex in the garage, but I'm not currently interested in breeding them. :p My tap water is too hard for discus breeding, and I don't have an RO...

    My planted 125g Discus tank

I have 5 Adult Mercury, which are the light bluish white ones. The ones I have are quite peppered though, which is typically undesirable, but that's how I got them. The breeder I ordered them from gave me a great price on them, so I decided I could live with the peppering. :p Also have 1...

    My planted 125g Discus tank

Funny you should mention that. When I took the pics, no there wasn't. But since then, 2 of the Mercury look like they're pairing off and have been hanging around the ozelot sword for the past week or so now. They've been shimmying up a storm, but no eggs as of yet. On the right hand side of...

    My planted 125g Discus tank

My chelated Fe I do not. Have never had a problem with mold and 500mL lasts me quite a while. I just keep it stored in the dark. I know folks have had problems with mold forming in their CSM+B stock solutions. So I just dose dry since my tank is pretty big.

    My planted 125g Discus tank

Very welcome, hope it helps. =) As far as dry ferts go though, I order from greenleafaquariums.com anymore. That's where I'll be ordering my dry Fe once I need some again. I know the stuff he uses there is 11%, and uses DPTA as a chelator. I don't pretend to know though if it's better than...
