    Las Vegas Recommendations?

Head downtown to see the light show on Fremont Street. And while you are there make a visit to Binion's Casino, a little bit of Las Vegas history. Vic

    Should I add salt??

I suspect your Mollies were bred and born in freshwater and therefore will be fine in fresh water. The other denizens of your tank are fresh water. I would therefore not add any salt to your tank. Save the salt for the time you need to medicate for ich, etc. Vic

Time for a second filter? **UPDATE**

Maybe you nitrate test reagent has time x'd. Take a water sample to a couple of fish stores and get them to test for you. This will either confirm your test results or refute the credability of your test gear. Vic

options for slowing down plant growth...

I think you are on the right track in reducing the photo period. You can do this and NOT "unbalance" your lighting. You may want to also consider reducing the fertilizer dosing if that is happening. Taking an hour or and hour and half off of the two photo period cycles will go a long way toward...

    Why I've been scarce.....new pics 6/12/07....Sailing!

Nicely done, congratulations. I am sure that you will envoy those self tailing winches over the circa 1965 book ends! What did you use for the below the line paint job. That job is about the worst on the boat, absolutely so if you include the requisite prep work. One of the members in our...

Best way to get fish to eat new types of food (zucchini)

Boiling for several minutes. This will soften the zucchini so the fish can eat it. Vic

Best way to get fish to eat new types of food (zucchini)

Blanching is a good idea. Also, if you happen to buy minced garlic in a jar just rub a small amount of the garlic juice on the zucchini. This should get them going. Garlic is a favourite of fish and is actually very good for them. Most of the premium prepared foods contain garlic. Vic

Canister Filter Media - Rena Filstar XP3

I have 2 xP3's on a 125 USG and in 1.5 years I have not replaced a filter pad. The bottom tray has 2 course and 2 fine pads. I alternate cleaning the media by filter and give it a real good cleaning. I use the ceramic bio media in half the middle try and then fill it with floss. The top try is...

Recommendations needed to paint back glass in a tank

I read a post somewhere that a tank could be coated using a heavy mylar and an innocuous oil such as canola. A film of oil is put over the whole of the tank wall surface and then the cut to fit mylar is put over the oil. Bubbles and lines are removed the same as installing wall paper. This is...

    CO2 Mix

There are 2 factors that effect the term of the fermentation process. Simply put, these are food and poison. Yeast is a living culture that feeds on sugars. The form of the sugar is mostly irrelevant. Granulated, molasses, power drink, what ever. All simply provide the food source, sugar. Poison...

    CO2 problems (DIY)

100 to 110 F is fine for the hydration of the yeast. I would give some thought to "starting" the yeast in water in that temperature range and adding 1/2 tsp of sugar. Let the yeast activate and then add to the must. The must should stay at a much warmer temperature than 60F. The fermentation...

    C02 Glass Diffuser

What kind of filtration do you have in the tank? If it is a cannister you should explore using an in-line CO2 diffuser. Far less hassel and likely more efficient at diffusing CO2 into the water column. Goggle DIY CO2 diffuser. Vic

Question about pythons and pwc temperature

Shell............. If you have a water bed store or a furniture store that sells water beds they will likely have a drain and fill "kit". This qizmo is the nuts of a python and if you get it in Australia it will likely be compatible with your plumbing. Once you have the drain and fill gizmo you...

    Loud AC50, just curious.

No it should not be worn out of round. Yes you should replace the impeller. Check the warranty situation, I think it is a year. Also, check the trueness of the axle by rolling it on a smooth flat surface. It should roll easily without a jerky motion. The jerky motion indicates that the axle is...

Does anyone own one of these CO2 systems?

    Cole Column aquariums

Cole#1500 $499 Choose_Shipping_Method:: That is a mighty expensive 25Gal tank. And, that price doesn't include any of the support equipment. I would think that maintaining that tank would be a real pain. Furthermore, I have no idea what one would stock in a tank that is 72" vertical! They have...

    Share your Crazy fish behavior

I have a four inch clown (truly well named) loach that stands on his tail, leans against a rock and appears to be looking out of the tank at the human goings on. . I am expecting him to light a smoke any day now! it is sort of a cross between Charlie Chaplin and Winston Churchill. Vic

    Co2 reactor problems

I have 2 xP3's on my 125g with NO noise. The fan in one of my light fixtures creates and absolute din relative to the xP's. To avoid the cavitation issues in a cannister filter, put the diffuser in the return line. Ergo, no CO2 in the canister and no cavitation. Vic

Best filter for 125 gallon fresh water???

Congrats on scoring the 125G. I have a 125G heavily planted with a medium fish load. I could safely add quite a few more. I have 2 Filstar xP3's. The redundancy gives some comfort in the event a filter packs up. Alternating filter cleaning eliminates the risk of crashing the bio-filter. Tank...

    Quick diffusor question

yohann: If you are going to pressurized CO2, you need to seriously upgrade your lights. As far as diffusion is concerned I have attached a Link to an in-line (return side) diffuser for a cannister filter. No CO2 in the filter, no worries. This diffuser was designed by Gomer on Aquatic Plant...

    DIY in-line CO2 Reactor

Most of the DIY reactors/diffusers that I have scene have the water inflow at the top of the reactor with the CO2 in. The tank return line is at the bottom. The theory being that forcing the CO2 down wards through the diffuser will result in enhanced and quicker diffusion. Vic

Rena XP2 Noise Problem...Still not fixed

It seems to me that the noise you are experiencing is coming from the impeller. As a matter of fact, that is the only moving part and therefore the only place the noise could be coming from. So the racket is as a result of a moving part meeting up with a non moving part. It is mightily strange...
