    Is a fluval 405 overkill for a 30g deep?

Thanks :) Its been up and running about a year, with 46lbs of liverock, 2 kenya trees, a small bunch of zoos. Currently there is a damsel, a perc clown, royal gramma, and a fire goby (no plans to add more fish, maybe some corals). I also have tons and tons of brittle stars. Im just using PCs...

    Is a fluval 405 overkill for a 30g deep?

I just hooked up a fluval fx5 to my 120g discus tank, and Im thinking I'd love a canister filter for my 30g (deep) salt water setup to replace the aquaclear/powerhead combo Im currently using. I know its better to go bigger for filtration with salt water- but would a 405 be too much? Thanks...

    Cycling with dead liverock

The LR in the tank right now is all dead- it dried out for about 2 weeks...Im not sure there is anything left for the ammonia to kill? I havent added the "new" lr (rock is a few years old) because Im worried the ammonia will kill off the good stuff on the new rock, so the new rock is in my 10g...

    Compatability Question

In wondering...did this guy watch for 3 weeks as the poor goldfish got his slime sucked off (and do nothing)? Or, did the goldfish perhaps die and the pleco went to lunch afterwards?

My nano setup - where Im at... PICS

Hi there, Thanks to everyone for the great advice. I went out and got new test kits- it seemed weird that the nitrates always read the same even after a water change. A friend of mine was telling me those test strips are crap! Sure enough with the new test kits everything is at 0. :)

    Cycling with dead liverock

We moved and my 31lbs of liverock died out. I put it into my 30g with water and a powerhead and Im letting it do its thing. Ammonia, nirites, and nitrates are are obscenly high, so Im hoping it's cycling? Thoughts on on cycling with dead liverock? I bought 14 more lbs and will use some to...

My nano setup - where Im at... PICS

Thanks! This one is the yellow-tailed kind. I had a blue devil before (last setup) but I lost him before he was aggressive. This one was a gift to get the cycle going. This morning: Nitrites: still 20 Nitrates: 0 ammonia 0 Yesterday the nitrites dropped from 40 to 20, but overnight they...

My nano setup - where Im at... PICS

Thanks. Forgot to add the part about "after everything hits 0" how long should I wait? Ive been through this process before, but listened to the store staff instead of the hobbiests with tragic results...Im doing it right this time.

My nano setup - where Im at... PICS

Picked up about 14lbs of liverock and some substrate (just enough to cover the bottom of a 10g), and was donated a damsel along with 5g of water. Put it all in the 10g with a powerhead and heater- my 36w CP light, nano-sized powerhead and filter come today. I wouldnt usually ever add a fish to a...

Thanks rkilling! I'd want more lighting power than that though on a 40g :(

    opinions?

We moved recently and Im setting up my tanks. The gravel was moist, but not wet (and full of grimey goodies)- so I imagine this might be speeding up the cycle (or Im starting part way in?) Ammonia is at .5 and nitrates are 20. Nitrites are 0. I cant tell if my tank is just full of junk or if...

    silly question

Oh I figured the sand would go to the bottom. I actually hate using sand, because I find it a pain to clean with my python...but, having 30lbs of dead liverock I need something else to get my tank going. I will get a bit more rock, but the sand seems like a benefit to the tank overall.

    silly question

    Sand is better?
  22. B

    silly question

silly question maybe.... I've got a tank with crushed coral but want to add live sand. I can just pour the sand right in over it? Im not going to get poison gas bubbles or fish that cant tolerate a mix of crushed coral and sand?

Hi all, We moved recently and while the tanks came along, the fish couldn't. I've been keeping fish for ~15 years now, and growing up my family was very involved in the local club. I've usually had at least 1 community tank, 1 African, and 1 discus tank running for the last 5 years. Just this...
