opinions?

We moved recently and Im setting up my tanks. The gravel was moist, but not wet (and full of grimey goodies)- so I imagine this might be speeding up the cycle (or Im starting part way in?) Ammonia is at .5 and nitrates are 20. Nitrites are 0. I cant tell if my tank is just full of junk or if it's actually mid-cycle. Any thoughts?

It's possible that you kicked up some of the junk in the tank causing a mini cycle.

There might have been some die-off of the bacteria, which might be causing a mini-cycle.

so you think if I give it a week or two everything will be back to 0?

It should be. Just keep an eye on your parameters and change water if needed.

Aparently it didnt take long! I tested just not and everything it at 0.

Off to buy plants.
