How did I miss this 3" fish?

How does a fish come out of a cucumber?? Will this fish be a menace of some sort, or is it just another wormfish? If it's a wormfish, I don't give it a good chance of survival because I doubt it's going to eat much with the tomato clown in the tank. :(

How did I miss this 3" fish?

Another thing I forgot to mention is that it came out at night. The timer for my lights accidentally got messed up and after the lights had been out for 30 minutes or so last night, they came back on. I went in to turn them back off and saw this little guy. If he's nocturnal, I doubt I'm...

How did I miss this 3" fish?

We recently (yesterday) added a few things to our tank. We added some snails of various sorts, hermit crabs, emerald crabs, three sand-sifting cucumbers, and a peppermint shrimp. It was just your every-day cleanup crew. Tonight, I looked at the tank and saw a fish that was approximately...

Protein skimmer not burping much out

The SG is about 1.0205-1.021. It seems to have plenty of water in it. It's about a year old at this point.

    HELP!!! My fish keep dying

You need to cycle your tank. Go to the grocery store, buy some shrimp, throw them in the tank, and watch your ammonia/nitrite/nitrate levels. When your ammonia and nitrites both go up and drop back down to zero, do a water change and then add a single fish.

Protein skimmer not burping much out

Hi, guys... it's been a while. :) I have an AquaC EV180 with a Mag 5 on my tank. It seems to be working, except it doesn't burp anything out. At first I was noticing a serious lack of the rushing air sound I'm used to. It turned out that the air intake valve was gummed up. I've resolved...

    Buying a Chiller

My mind is made up. I don't rellish the thought of spending that much money, but I do rellish the thought of the peace of mind. I'm not looking for a home-brew solution or any way to cut a few corners. I really just want to shell out the cash and then not have to worry about it again. I'm...

    Buying a Chiller

I'm definitely buying a chiller in the next few days. I know that a lot of you think that swamp boxes, fans, etc. are the way to go. I, on the other hand, prefer peace of mind and not having to worry about these things. I live in an apartment and have no easy way to mount a fan on the tank...

My algae knowledge must be lacking...

I can arrange that. I'll have to change the timing on the lights so they come on after I get home from work. I am usually only able to notice this on the weekends.

I think you misunderstood my question.

My algae knowledge must be lacking...

Anyone? Oh, and I bought some PO4 sponge last night. We'll see how things look when I get home. It said it would work within hours.

My algae knowledge must be lacking...

I had heard that 0.25 ppm PO4 was not bad, but I did doubt what I was hearing since I had eliminated so many other possible causes. If you think that it is enough, then I'll take your advice and get me some PO4 sponge. I buy my RO from different sources. I believe they all have a DI stage...

My algae knowledge must be lacking...

For those of you who might remember me, it's been a while. I've upgraded from the old 42 hex to a new 92 bow-front. I've got 110 watts of PC actinics, 250 watts of 10,000K MH, 170 lbs of LS, 100 lbs of LR, just a few small fish, and some inverts. It's running on a refugium of my own design...

Margin of error on test kits for water quality?

I've never heard anyone say anything about Aquarium Pharm. before. I use them because they are sooo much easier than the rest of them. They're not very expensive either. They get the job done for me. I also notice that the LFS's here use them. I've never heard anyone say anything negative...

    Which Chiller?

I'm going to get a chiller either way. I may replace the pumps in the future, but for now I want the chiller. I want to keep the tank cooler than the apartment stays anyway. I don't believe that a fan will be able to compete with the pumps, PC lights, MH lights, and the ambient temperature in...

    Which Chiller?

I have a Mag 7 return pump and a Mag 5 running the protein skimmer. Both pumps are external.

    Which Chiller?

I have a fan over my tank. My sump is covered to prevent splashing water from escaping.

    Which Chiller?

I have been considering building my own chiller, but as it doesn't seem feasible, I guess I'm going to buy one. My tank is simply too warm. However, I can't seem to find any good information on which chillers are superior to others. I have looked for reviews and such, but have found none...

    bubbles

I also have this problem right now. A lot of the bubbles are from algae, but not quite all of them. I believe this is denitrification, correct? If so, I wonder why because my nitrates are in the 5-10 range right now. What should I (we) do to alleviate the problem?

    Advice on Moving an aquarium

I would recommend that you get a couple of salt buckets from your LFS. Fill them with tank water, then put the fish in one and the rock/sand in another. If you need two for the rock/sand, then so be it. Then I would put the rest of the water in jugs and move it. When you get to your house, I...

    Ick Problem

Atari, you are putting words in my mouth, and I appreciate it none too much. I never said that a fish was expendable. My experience has shown me that if I QT one fish, then I am MORE likely to have a casualty than if I were to not QT a fish. Only when there are large numbers of fish "at risk"...

    Ick Problem

I feel that QTing a fish will unnecessarily stress the fish out. In my experience with smaller numbers of fish in the show tank, it's less worthwhile to QT the new fish than to add them directly to the main tank. Basically, this is my experience. QTing is a problem. I've lost fish in QT...
