Menagerie---Not a good development, Now what do I do?

Oh no! Its all my fault! I did something really stupid and never even considered what I was doing! Remember I said I put in plants and the fish had eaten/destroyed one half of the tank? Well, a lot of plant debris has been clogging the filter. So, about a week or so ago, the filter...

Menagerie---Not a good development, Now what do I do?

My Ite reading is max on the card. This happened fast. Also, I did tell you those plants were added recently and they have tearing them up. My filter has been a little funny lately. i've had to clean it really good twice this month already due to plant debris. Of course, I thought the bio...

Menagerie---Not a good development, Now what do I do?

OKay, now I'm really freaking out. My Ites are through the roof. They were fine a couple of days ago. PH still stable and Ammonia 0. What is going on with my tank!?!?! I used my last Ates strip a few days ago I'll have to get more today. (That's the only strip I use btw, the other tests...

Menagerie---Not a good development, Now what do I do?

Thanks Menagerie. Yeah, its bad. This morning it looks like part of her back is gone. I am going to have to remove her regardless because the others are attacking her. I think I'll probably lose her today. I don't see signs of hemorraghing in any others. I also can't tell if the gills are...

Menagerie---Not a good development, Now what do I do?

Okay, from my previous thread, now I have one cory that is missing her dorsal fin and has an open lesion where it was. Both SAE's are scratching like crazy along with 1 Skunk and 1 other cory. Also, several of my fish look like their gills are red and one rosy barb looks "swollen" sort of...

1 Dead Fish and I noticed something odd

Thanks Menagerie, I needed that little pick up. I will raise my salt and I will look into that other filter. All my fishies will move into larger tanks in the spring, but I am always looking to improve my systems for their health. Now, if I can just get that guy to grab the chick at the lfs...

1 Dead Fish and I noticed something odd

Hey guys here goes: I haven't seen the flashing today. I have not seen any other fish doing this at all. Ok, I can raise the temp easily, but I already add salt to the water when I do changes. How quickly do I add this extra 2 tablespoons and I should I adjust for what I usually add when I...

1 Dead Fish and I noticed something odd

Hey Menagerie on more thing: I'm re-reading on those links again. One thing I keep seeing is that most of these parasites "cannot" be removed from the tank like they can the fish. AM I going to need to dismantle this tank and start from scratch? I'm going to visit my lfs today for sure. I...

1 Dead Fish and I noticed something odd

Hi Menagerie: To be honest when I first saw the little guy, another danio was picking on him. And I thought he looked like he had been bit. The only problem is, I can't imagine what in that tank could have bit him. He did initially seem to respond to the Melafix when I treated him, but of...

    corys fins

I have cories and they eat the sinking shrimp pellets. Not algae wafers. I know others disagree sometimes, but cories do not eat algae as a primary diet and flakes that fall will not take care of their nutritional needs. I'm thinking if you change the food you might see a huge improvement. R

1 Dead Fish and I noticed something odd

1~What type of fish is afflicted? In addition, please describe what is wrong with the fish to the beset of your ability (i.e. cotton like growth, bloated, etc.). Well, yesterday one of my zebra danios had odd "injuries" for lack of a better word near his tail fin. On one side he looked raw and...

I want to plant a mature established tank

I didn't know that about Pl*cs, I will keep that in mind. I haven't heard about the filter possibly needing to change. I'll check on that. One more question though. After I put down this fluorite for the plants, do I need to perform my water changes/tank cleanings any differently? Right...

I want to plant a mature established tank

Hey I like the clay pot idea! And, I'm getting some free plants from Lam. I will just keep in them in a non-fish tank until I can plant them all in mine. Oh, I'm so excited! I'll be at my lfs tomorrow for my finishing touches! BTW, I will need to buy the clay pots, but do I need to treat...

I want to plant a mature established tank

Okay, I've been in the fish hobby for over a year now and I have an established 20gal that I would like to plant. I have read alot of the threads and have visited Rex's site as well. I think I understand most of what I have read. Now here's the questions that remain: 1. I have not seen any...

I'm giving away free plants again!

Oh, I would love to have some of those! I'm getting ready to plant a mature tank for the first time. Too bad I don't have one of those machines from Star Trek. I'd be right over! lol Rose

    Pink Tailed Chalceus

I've decided not to get him yet. I'll wait until I move my Gouramis and Sharks next spring. Then I may look into a tank with more aggressive fish where he and others will be at home. I promise to post pics if and when it happens. Thanks you guys and gals for all the great advice! Rose

    Ivan killed my Oscar!

I agree those back up air pumps are life savers. Or should I say fish savers. We've had power outages due to storms and in the winter we have lost power for up to 3 days. Matter of fact last year, wasn't great for winter power. We were the only circuit in the neighborhood out and we were out...

    Can I move my SAE?

TG - The Blue Gouramis are 4to 5" long and about 3" tall. The Gold and Pearl Gouramis are about 2" long and 1" tall. The Paradise Albino is 1&1/2" long and 1" tall and the Honey (my baby) is only an inch long and tall. He's the one I'm concerned about to be honest. The sharks and Pictus can...
