Setting up Red Sea Reefer XL 525: Maybe

Hello, Returning to the hobby here and now relocated to Florida. I’ve been trying to decide on inhabitants and a tank. I want to start a FOWLR and maybe in 6 months or so add some soft corals. I may be buying a used Red Sea Reefer: 108g aquarium, 31 g sump. Offer is from a LFS and includes...

    ID Please

No, there isn't a tail and no horseshoe crab. I found this pic online. It's called a heart cockle. It looks similar, but from other pics it seems cockles (though not specifically the heart cockle) are shaped like a regular bivalve clam. So that would mean that the creature in my tank is...

    ID Please

These are the best I could do. In the closer one, you can see that it is open slightly. That's about the extent that I 've seen it open.

    ID Please

Yes, it opens where the lines come together. It moves like a clam: slowly opening then snapping shut when startled. I can't see a definitive hinge, though. The mushroom has since covered it, at least for today. Working on a better pic.

Got this on a mushroom rock today. Didn't notice it until the shroom retracted. It's about 1 inch and it opens in the miidle of the pointed end. When open, it raises slightly from the rock. Thanks

    Oyster?

Once again my LFS has given me a surprise. This time my new mushroom 'rock' opened. Upon further inspection it seems as if the 'rock' is an oyster or bivalve of some sort. Indeed, this is 'live rock.' It's egg-shaped, about 2.5 inches and the shell, though covered with algea, is striated...

    Sponge? Type?

It's the same piece Second pics are after lights out. You're right, though. I rotated the rock, so you are seeing a different angle

    Sponge? Type?

Hello, Got this on a rock. It's about the size of a quarter. It seems to have 'shed' an outer layer yesterday (white debris in pics). Then, it opened, as pictured. Blew off some debris and it immediately closed (less than a second). LFS said it was a type of sponge, any info would be...

    Hospital Tank Setup

Thanks for the advice. I have some small peices of LR that I could move into the QT. Maybe sand? Do you think I'll need sand for the Diamond Goby since he is a sand sifter? Although, he's been eating brine shrimp. By the way, water is RO/DI from my LFS.

    Hospital Tank Setup

Hello, I'm new to the site and would like some advice. How would you recommend setting up a hospital tank? I've read about using a 10g bare tank w/ filter (sponge?) and heater with some PVC for hiding. Water from the main tank? Anything else? Background: 29g saltwater Eclipse (FOWLR) 7...

My local store wanted $79+ for a 'good' test kit. Where can I get one for a little less?
