    Algae Bloom won't go away.

FemJock, it seems you have a nutrient/light imbalance in your tank that needs to be addressed at a fundamental level (less light, fewer fish, smaller feeds, etc.), but the most tractable solution to the immediate problem of a diatom or bacteria free-floating bloom is a Vortex Diatom filter. Have...

    jaw dropping electric bill

It's ok GreenMagi, you were thinking of centawatts, not kilowatts. ;) I have no idea what the KWH cost is in NYC, but I seem to be paying about an extra $40 a month for my ectotherms. It's gotten so costly that I'm not A/Cing my house to keep down the bill. I guess I'm getting used to it...

What Plecos work well in planted tank?

The guy who was selling those large auctions of Zebra Plecos was a fraud. (I believe we're talking about the same auctions.) He never shipped them from Germany, and made a killing by tricking trusting aquarists. As far as I could tell, he created a second personna a few weeks later...

Why won't my CO2 levels go up?! Please HELP!

Hi Cgcaver, Your case is a bit of a conundrum. I have a question and a couple of suggestions... 1) Are you sure that the pressurized tank you have is filled with CO2? It's a pretty silly question, but it's the only obvious question that hasn't been asked yet. Thought I'd give it a shot...

info on Queen Arabesque Pleco (L-260)

Dax, check out my profile for the Queen Arabesque: http://www.aquariumadvice.com/viewtopic.php?t=27521&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 Great fish, beautiful markings. Make sure to give him/her enough non-algae-based foods, since QAs are primarily carnivores. There are some other fish that...

    SSSWWWWWWWWWEEEEETTTTT!!!!!!!!!

If it was in the lake for a long time, it may be ok. But when wood dries back out, a piece that previously sank, often does not sink again for a while. Best of luck!

How to feed orange to fish

Interesting! I've fed my plecos apples once or twice, but never considered oranges. This does worry me a little, though. Fishes are not accustomed to the very, very high concentration of fructose present in oranges. Feeding them oranges too often may not be good for their system. If you are...

    It's been awhile....

My girlfriend has 5 denisonii barbs now, and 5 more on the way from an importer. They're superb fish, and your 75 is, I'm sure, a wonderful home for them. I'm sure they're loving it! She paid about $30 each for the large ones (4-5") and is paying about $15 each for the smaller ones (3-4")...

    Any small plecos out there???

In all fairness, I have gotten *some* good advice from LFSs... There are some really great, dedicated store owners out there, some of whom are also passionate breeders or aquarists themselves. But, by and large, LFS employees are young and inexperienced, and only keep the job for a few months...

    Unusual pleco, any ideas?

Yeah, some plecos are downright, diehard carnivores. Hypancistrus zebra comes to mind. Conscientious keepers and breeders routinely feed these guys beef heart and other delectables. Though, they are also quite partial to peeled peas...

ok i need help ID something growing in my 40g

And, with that fungus or bacteria on it, I think you'll find that NO fish will touch it. Def. best to get it out as soon as possible.

    Any small plecos out there???

Good! You got a pleco! They are my absolute passion. And gold nuggets, though not incredibly rare for Loricariids, are truly some of the most gorgeous FW fish around. The bad news... Gold Nuggets 1) get larger than that--usually about 7-12 inches, depending on the species (Baryancistrus sp...

    SSSWWWWWWWWWEEEEETTTTT!!!!!!!!!

You'll want to make sure it still sinks, of course... Driftwood has a nasty tendency to float a lot of the time unless it comes from a few particularly dense types of trees, or has been soaking consistently for a long time. If it doesn't sink, you can always try to screw slate into the bottom...
