Bristlenose Plecos Safe for Planted Tanks?

No idea. That's the only name I've ever seen on the tanks at the LFS. They usually sell them next to the Otos. Otos also don't do much for algae, but they are fun to watch. :)

Bristlenose Plecos Safe for Planted Tanks?

Plecos and snails are rarely a solution for algae. They do eat it, but only a tiny bit. I've had a BN in my tank, and he hardly touched the algae. The only fish that I've ever had any luck with are the actual "algae eaters". Those tiny little fish are like little window washers!

    High nitrates help!

What do you do if the source water has high nitrates to begin with? My 2 planted tanks suffer from hair algae and my cichlid tank has dark, dense tufts of algae all over the gravel. No matter what I do, it won't go away.

    Best food ??

Remember that feeding live feeder fish will foster aggression. If you stay away from feeders, you can turn an aggressive fish into a semi-aggressive, and limit the potential for injury between the fish you want to keep.

    Overstocked in a 10 gallon?

I have a few neons and otos in my 10g with 3 GBRs. No breeding, since the GBRs are all male, but they all seem relatively happy with the space.

My first fishless cycle is complete - 10g FW

They are pretty! About 1/2 again as big as they were when I got them. However, the females died... I went to the LFS and got one more young one, but it turned out to be a male too. The java moss is growing like crazy, and I have to trim it back about once a month. Right now, I'm fighting some...

    Who's eggs are these?

Thanks BS. I was just about to ask what I should do with them, and decided to check on whether they had turned clear. They are gone! Maybe the Sevrum figured out that they were barren eggs, and ate them? Would be cool to breed her though. How do I tell that one is a male if I were to go try to...

    Who's eggs are these?

I posted this in at the end of my thread in the photography section, but no one has responded, so I figure I'll re-post here. Ok, it's been several months since I've been here, but I just noticed something this evening that shocked me! I think I have eggs! They weren't there yesterday... My...

    St. Louis Fish Stores

Beldt's Yeah, that's probably my favorite fish store now. Some of the prices are a bit higher than Petsmart, but the quality and selection is much better.

    My simple 47g FW tank

Ok, it's been several months since I've been here, but I just noticed something this evening that shocked me! I think I have eggs! They weren't there yesterday... My sevrum has been munching on the algae scrubber in the last week or so, but I figured it was only because there was a bunch of...

    Guppy Fry

Don't feel bad. I actually have a few guppies in my GBR tank with the intention of having the GBRs eat the fry. Supposedly it helps the GBRs to spawn. Guppies are such prolific breeders that you will be swamped with fry if you don't find something that will take care of them (by eating or...

    Fishless Cycle Confused

Sounds good. Just keep adding ammonia on a daily basis to keep it up to 4-5 ppm, until tests show zero Ammonia and zero Nitrites 24 hours after adding the ammonia. You're almost there!

    Amazon fish compatability

Oh, yeah... Pleco's don't handle salt at all.

    Amazon fish compatability

I know Silver Dollars can get rather aggressive, especially in that small of a tank, but it's always up to the individual fish's personality. I like my Sevrum, and he's done well with the community tank I have. 30g might be a bit small for that size fish though.

Spring time Pond (Pic) Can't wait for good weather.

The only thing I think you could do to improve on that is to install some laminar flow jets to make a jumping fountain! :) It's gorgeous!!

    Hey Y'all

Be careful with the sunlight. It tends to encourage algae, and can really mess with the temperature of the tank. Most people discourage having tanks anywhere close to a window.

    Should I change my filter

The air line does not usually come with the air pump. They usually sell it in the LFS right next to the pumps though. The air pumps don't like to get wet. You will want to get some kind of air stone or other device that diffuses the air in the water. There are many kinds, shapes and sizes of...

    Should I change my filter

Not sure what you mean by "air pumps you put in your tank". Air pumps usually sit outside the tank and run an airline into the tank. Foggy water can be the result of a bacteria bloom. From your other post, I see that your tank is not fully cycled, which would explain this. I would say that the...

    Acclimating SNAILS

I never acclimate FW snails. As long as the water params are good, they should come out soon. Try giving them a piece of lettuce or cucumber to eat, and check on them after the lights go out.

Small fish in a Big pond

I agree with the fish selection. Neons and Guppies are great fish for the smaller tanks. Stay away from gold fish, as they really need room to swim and grow.

    new to aquariums

I had the same 18" long setup on my 47g Tall. Rather than spend the money on a new hood, I made a new DIY one that holds 4 spiral CF bulbs (100w equivalent each). I lined it with foil, and it works perfecly!
