Why is my tank so warm?

Oh man, do I feel like a knob. I just unplugged the heater last night and down, down, down went the temp. Lesson learned, I'll be buying a good one today. Thanks, as always. I guess if your tv doesn't work you should check to see if it's plugged in ;)

Why is my tank so warm?

grrr darn heater...what are the best brands? Years ago when I had salts I used Ebo-Jaeger as I recall, good stuff...that was 20 years ago though.

Why is my tank so warm?

I know it seems obvious, but I've never had a temp problem in the winter (Minnesota) so just assssumed it was okay. I'll dial it back a number of clicks and see if it helps. It's very steady at 82, which made me wonder if there was a problem there. Thanks!

Why is my tank so warm?

I have a simple setup, a 20 gallon FW tank with two Walmart power filters on the back. The tank was in excess of 84 degrees due to room temp, though the room temp wasn't even close to that. I moved it to the basement, which is full depth and is no warmer than 70 during the middle of the...

    Python!

I just used mine the other day for the first time...it is SO worth $30, what a great deal. Using this will increase my enjoyment of the hobby and decrease the dread that builds over time in dealing with water changes. You really cant go wrong with a Python!

    Where to buy non-hypoallergenic floss

Holy hannah banana, batman I had no idea. Okay, I retract my initial question...they do have 'non' allergenic and I'll pick some up. I picked up a bag, if you could call it that. at Petsmart yesterday...I think there's like 4 square inches for $4 or some such thing (ha!). Walmart, here I...

    Where to buy non-hypoallergenic floss

I'm pretty sure that's the same stuff I saw at my local Wally, but it says 'non-allergenic' on the bag. As I understand it, we're not suppose to use that, right? Or am I wrong? What is the harm with using hypoallergenic fiberfill anyway???

    Where to buy non-hypoallergenic floss

I do have those two stores nearby...I thought it was the consensus that they charged a fortune for floss and that one should buy it at a discount store. Either way I imagine you'd change it out maybe once per month so I spose it wouldn't be that costly either way...hmmmm...

    Where to buy non-hypoallergenic floss

Boy, I'm becoming a pest but with a last name of Fish, what do you expect?!! I went to Wally World to buy some polyester fiberfill to use as floss but there isn't any that is non-hypoallergenic. I also went to Target and they don't sell any. Does anyone have an outlet for the stuff that is...

    Marineland C-series middle basket ?

and another obvious (but not to me!) great idea, swapping the bio media from one of the hobs into the canister, wouldn't miss a beat! This is a great site!

    Marineland C-series middle basket ?

I think I got it... after further research, it'd appear that the plastic scrubbies would be the way to go for this, or maybe a little floss.

    Marineland C-series middle basket ?

I've now purchased a C-160 cannister off of Ebay, as it was a bargain ($49 bnib). The middle basket is for carbon, which it came with, but I don't want to use it for that purpose. Any suggestions? It came with bio beads for the top basket and a filter pad for the bottom. This is just a...

    Python clarification

Outstanding I'll be sitting in the front row waiting for the narration 'and on your left, you'll see a beautiful school of neons being sucked into a Python'. I'm so there, I'll head to Wally World right now to get one :)

    Python clarification

No kidding... I didn't think I could do that, but maybe that's a reaction from when I was into salts. Wow, if that's the case, I would jump on that bandwagon (Python)...what a huge help it'd be :)

    Python clarification

Dumb question - I did search the site but need a clarification. I'm just getting back into fish after a number of years absence, and the Python seems to be a brilliantly simple newer innovation...but correct me if I'm wrong, it's of very little use to most people, at least I'd think so, in that...

Substitute bio filter media for HOB?

Even more good advice...3M pads, they'd fit right in. Does everyone use charcoal anyway? I was told years ago not to, that it's not good for the water overall so I've never used it, not to mention it's expensive.

    bio Wheel Replacement

I ran one for quite a while years ago when they first came out and were actually very popular. If it were me, I'd replace the whole thing, but that's just me. I had to do periodic maintenance to keep the thing spinning but never really replaced it.

Substitute bio filter media for HOB?

Thanks for the response - just for clarification, you're using polyster batting exclusively to provide bio filtration? If that's what you mean that's great, just what I'm looking for :)

Substitute bio filter media for HOB?

Hi everyone, I'm new here, obviously, and am getting back into fish after a few years. I've set up a 20 gal fresh tank and have a cycled 5-15 Aqua-tech hanging in it...I know it's not enough, which leads me to my question. I was also given another 5-15 along with a 10-20, both like new except...
