DIY Plywood tank, with INLINE filtration?

well you second design is pretty good. i would not use the prefilters in there as the clog up fast and slowing you overflow and now your pump is draining your sump into the tank. then you get water everywhere. as for the sump you can put a filter sock there. i would have 2 that way it makes for...

DIY Plywood tank, with INLINE filtration?

the reason fo the sump is for all the filtration to go there. its going to be a pita to clean al the pre filters you want to make. its going to make a nitrifying factory there. i would do a coast to coast and have all your filtration in the sump.

this is exactly what happend you did not give your bacteria a chance to catch up to the new bio load. that spiked all your readings. and everyday you did the pwc's the bacteria was still trying to catch up. and was unable to break down the left over food and the fish waste. take the fish back...

i use to have a coralife skimmer they are okay but i went with the octopus skimmer and by far a better choice. they are great i have the recirculating 150. i would go with a sump style w/fuge not a wetdry. a mag 9 would be good with the head loss it will put you at 700gph.

Can I replace actinic bulb with regular one?

you can make your own co2 with yeast and sugar. and just get a bubble defuser. and if you want plants you will need this. all i did was get an old gatorade bottle drilled a hole in the cap and stuck and airline tube in it ran it up the the tank and in to the bubble defuser. kept my plants happy.
