if you're going to change your bulb, do it now that most of the melting has occurred. I don't know that I always know what goes on when i have a crypt melt, but you may as well make minor changes now that its happened, rather than later, when all the leaves are back.

doesn't that suck? crypt melt can be one of the saddest things, especially when its a huge plant. they'll come back, just stick to your normal routine and keep things stable.

I took 5 red tail mirror blue tetras from a friend who has to dismantle tank and move in a hurry. they were sold to him as columbia blue, but i looked them up on liveaquaria, they look exactly like the red tail mirror blue tetras. they are free to good home. you pick up or pay for shipping.

if you're dosing postassium nitrate to get your nitrates up to desired levels, is it really necessary to dose something else for postassium as well? just curious.

mixing bulbs is always an option, some swear by it. I personally like the 6700k bulb as opposed to anything lower. Just my preference. With good co2 and a good fertilizer regimen, glosso is possible with 3 watts. I've got glosso under 3 wpg. It doesn't grow as fast as it would had I gone...

if you choose another fish, try to find a mid to top dweller... cories and rams, in my experience usually hang out at the bottom... HTH

no experiences with vermiculite, no ideas what that is, no experience with laterite... but... I've tried shulz aquatic soil, flora base, gravel (hey, i was new) and eco complete. Eco complete is hands down the best. Little clouding, stays put, plants love it, great color. flora base is ok...
