    CO2 Regulator recommendations

Does anyone have any recommendations for a good high quality CO2 regulator that will last a long time, and hold accurate flow? Its been a long time since I've bought one, and back in the day it was basically Milwaukee or nothing. Now there are 50 brands and the prices vary wildly. When I do a...

    Suggestions

A couple of those demand higher light as well, and when in the right conditions grow like crazy (i.e. weekly trimmings) in my experience. I think you'd be better suited picking a few species well suited to your conditions and wants vs. getting a package like that.

    Opinions on Lily Pipe Skimmers?

Hi all, Thinking about starting up a high tech planted tank again after several years with no tanks. Looks like there have been some changes in the planted tank community with new equipment vendors and options which is great... back in my hayday it was basically ADA or nothing if you wanted a...

    Heater driving me crazy!

Also consider environmental factors - is the tank near a heat vent, a window, a door, a draft, etc? It doesn't take much fluctuation in the environment around the tank to cause temp swings - while the heat capacity of water is greater than air, it still will change temperature very quickly.

    Hydrogen Peroxide for algae

I too would be weary of application in a display tank with lots of coral, though a lot of people report success with direct application via a medicine dropper. I think if you get your PO4 in control, it will go a long way towards inhibiting the algae growth you are experiencing. I go a month...

    Breeding fish

I have heard of platys crossing with sword tails, and there are lots of pics out there of those results. Have heard of guppys and platys crossing. But not Mollys and Platys.

Why can't I ask questions in the fresh water section under breeding

I am not sure what would cause that. There is nothing in your account settings that would prevent you from posting there. I'll report it to our tech folks, perhaps there is a glitch somewhere. I moved your breeding thread into the correct forum -- let me know here if you cannot reply there now...

Why can't I ask questions in the fresh water section under breeding

There are no restrictions on posting in the breeding forum. Perhaps you were trying to post in the classifieds forum by mistake? That is the only subforum that restricts posting. I have also verified that your account has no restrictions to posting there. Can you give it another try and let...

    Hardscape Suggestions Needed

My two cents: A triangular composition always looks best, utilizing the rule of thirds, and also odd numbers of groupings. Right now you have an even number of groupings (2) that are about equally sized. Breaking it into 3 groupings, with a triangular composition so that the eye is drawn from...

    Torch or frogspawn ?

I would agree, it is all about finding the right spot. I had Euphyllia that didn't grow at all in months, and as soon as I moved them, they exploded. One of the torches I had grew 6 or 7 heads in 6 months or so. It is all about getting the conditions of flow, light, water chemistry correct...

    Torch or frogspawn ?

That is a little better - with that photo i think it is a torch. I would not try feeding it. How long has it been in the tank? Is the soft tissue still receding? If it continues to decline you may want to move it to a different position (different light/flow). Torches seem to be a little...

Can't tell for sure, if I had to guess I'd say frogspawn. It looks like it is dying, with the skeleton exposed like that.

    Help the Shrimp Noob!

Agreed, they are finicky and can be tough to get started - but once they adjust to your tank, they will breed and you will have a colony for years. They don't live very long but they multiply like crazy. I had one tank, started with 5, and a year later had 50+.

    Test kits

I prefer the red sea kits and hanna checker for PO4. I really like the ease of reading the red sea titration tests. Have used many of the salifert kits as well, they are nice. I always end up back with Red Sea.
