    Sick Neon Tetra

I found the little guy dead this morning. The other neons seem to be doing OK. I did some research and found some very different info on the web. I found several sites that put the avg. life span of a neon at 1 to 2 years. I found some other sites the put their life span at 10 years. I am not...

    Sick Neon Tetra

Hi, I have 6 neons in my tank. In the past all have been prosperous. I notice one neon has gotten significantly smaller and has lost some of his color. He is still eating but does not look well at all. :( Could it be old age? He is between 1 and 2 years old. All other neons and fish are...

I am thinking about setting up a small ( 2.5 or 5 gallon) QT tank. Can someone provide me with advice regarding set up and use? I am new to this hobby and feel that this is the next logical step. Wasting Disease Questions

Does anyone have experience with wasting disease. I had a zebra that began swimming erratically and refusing to eat. After a week or two the weight loss was significant. I had to put her down. I have noticed my red wagtail platy, (the pig of the tank) is not eating and looking a bit smaller and...

    Question about Cory interaction

I have a spotted cory. He has been in my tank for some time and gets along with everyone. I had a cave dwelling catfish of undetermined species. After several of my smaller fish began disappearing I removed the cat and took him to my lps. They gave me credit for two corys. I would like some...

    Platy Ailments

I am somewhat new at this. One of my favorite fish is a Red Platy. It has been in the tank for two years. I have noticed that he has some small patches of discoloration around his left eye. The skin is a lighter almost greyish color. Is this indicative of any ailment? If so, can is affect the...

    Water chemisrty Question

I recently purchased my own test kit. My ammonia and nitrites have been at practically zero for the last three weeks. I have not gravel vacuumed or changed any water in those three weeks. I have only been replacing evaporated water. I have also not changed my charcoal filter in that either...

    Trauma question.

How traumatic is it to the fish if you remove all of the plants and structures in the tank. I have a cave that houses a catfish, which I never see because he never comes out of the cave. As stated in a previous post, I have lost a new addition to the tank. I think the fish is in one of the...

    Water testing kit questions.

As I am new to this hobby, up until now I have been taking my water to the pet store to have it tested. I am getting in my novice opinion unusual spikes in ammonia and nitrates. This seems to be occurring after I gravel vacuum and add fresh water. I have decided it is time to begin tracking my...

    Dragon Loaches??

Except for the coloring that definately looks like the fish. THe one I saw was a darker green. Kind of like a pond scum green. Thanks for the info and the web site. Based on what you have told me I will not get this one. I did not realize how large it would get.

    Dragon Loaches??

This fish was a murky green, very eel like and about 5 - 6 inches long. It had fins and a tail. The fin on his back was almost the entire length of his body and was jagged like a dragon's tail or saw teeth. I hope this will help someone ID the fish for me. Thanks for all of your input.

    Private eye needed!!!

Thanks for all of your input. The Red Tail is a bit over 4". I do not think he is the culprit because he is often out and about in the tank, and there were much smaller fish in the tank than the missing platy. I inherited this tank and was told that the big cat hardly ever comes out of the...
